The Department of Conservation and Recreation, seeks applicants for a Contracted Student Interns - Environmental Compliance Intern (Unpaid Internship) to perform the following duties:

Position Information:

Contracted Student Intern: Environmental Compliance Intern

Location: 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA

Start/End Date: 6/1/2026 - 8/14/2026

Salary Rate: $0.00 (UNPAID Student Internship)

Weekly Hours: 20 hours

Number of Openings: 1 position

This internship is unpaid and designed to support students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field. Interns may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.

General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Environmental Compliance Intern will support the Office of Natural Resources in reviewing DCR projects statewide to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The intern will assist with environmental regulatory compliance checks at active construction sites across the state. The intern will gain knowledge in environmental regulations including the Wetlands Protection Act, Massachusetts Endangered Species Act, Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act, and the Aprocess, as well as how to conduct site inspections for regulatory compliance.

Detailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing project construction plans, analyzing project areas using ArcGIS, evaluating projects against environmental regulations, reviewing issued environmental permits, assisting in site inspections, and assisting with the development of training material
  • This internship includes field work that may be outside of public transportation routes.
