Applied Training Facility Program Coordinator
Job Description
The Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) is a state agency within the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS). The MPTC's mandate and mission is to set the police training standards for all law enforcement officers certified by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission ("POST"), and to develop, deliver, and maintain a record of that training for over 23,000 police officers (municipal, MBTA, environmental, campus, hospitals), deputy sheriffs, harbormasters, constables, and other statutorily defined personnel who perform police duties and functions in the Commonwealth. These responsibilities are to be carried out in a way that ensures high quality, standardized, community-oriented training.
The MPTC's training programs include a comprehensive, 800-hour basic recruit training program for new police officers, statutorily required annual in-service training programs, and specialized training programs. The MPTC's academies work closely with the local municipal police departments in their respective regions and are responsive to regional training needs and requirements. The MPTC operates 7 regional academies and oversees 10 authorized academies across the Commonwealth.
The Applied Training Facility Program Coordinator is responsible for the scheduling of personnel and facility needs of the Marlborough Range and Defensive Tactics gym. The Applied Training Facility Program Coordinator reports to the Range Manager / the Range Supervisor to ensure seamless operation of the MPTC Applied Training Facility Marlborough.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the coordination of all MPTC training at the applied training facility including:
- Creating classes in the MPTC training database, Acadis.
- Responsible for scheduling use of the MPTC Range, Defensive Tactics Gym, and other Applied Training resources. Schedules instructors and range safety officers for all training utilizing the MPTC Firearms Range. Confirms with incoming lead, department, or instructor trainers that certified MPTC instructors are assigned to each program utilizing the facility.
- Coordinate with State-wide Firearms Coordinator, State-wide Defensive Tactics and Use of Force Coordinator on the scheduling of specialized training programs and upcoming classes.
- Prepare for upcoming classes by identifying lesson plans and slide decks appropriate for the training, communicating with the attendees regarding scheduling and distributing necessary materials for the classes. Act as point of contact for class attendees.

- Develop and administer evaluation surveys at the completion of a class, analyze data collected, and compile data into associated reports.
- Responsible for setting up classrooms and creating signage, nametags, and rosters for each class.
- Responsible for keeping the training calendar for the applied training facility and notifying the Range Manager and Range Specialist/Supervisor of any conflicts or issues.
- Responsible for updating the MPTC database, Acadis, with information regarding completed classes to ensure accurate training records for attendees and departments.
- Responsible for notifying departments and other agencies of available trainings, as well as seeking out the training needs of departments.
- Create surveys for usage and assess needs of law enforcement agencies.
- Partner with the Operations and Facilities on the upkeep and maintenance of the Firearms Range and Defensive Tactics Gym.
- Responsible for facility and range supply inventory management. This will include partnering with the Fiscal Team to procure and order supplies, as well maintaining an inventory, implementing inventory control methods, and managing storage areas.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
- This will primarily be an on-site position, with limited remote work available.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong administrative, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of firearms and safety protocol.
- Applicant has a current MA License to Carry (preferred but not required).
- Familiarity with MA Firearms Law.
- Experience in facility and personnel management, event planning, and coordination is beneficial.
- A background in business administration or related field.
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, reach and kneel for extended time and to be exposed to loud sounds.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75lb.
- Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Respond to immediate threats, injuries and / or incidents that occur on the range.
- Ability to work primarily days or evenings and occasional weekends.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and good decision making.
- Ability to multitask and be very organized.
Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.
II. A Graduate degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required (A) experience.
III. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
NOTE: No substitutions will be permitted for the required (B) experience.
