Description:
This internship is unpaid and designed to support students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field. Candidates may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.
The Air Planning Branch Air Quality Forecasting Intern will support MassDEP's Air Quality Forecasting Team by analyzing ambient air monitoring data and comparing it with historical forecasts and sensor data. This role offers hands-on experience in air quality forecasting, data analysis, and environmental reporting.
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Analyze ambient air monitoring data and compare results to historical forecasts and air sensor data (e.g., PurpleAir).
- Assist the Air Quality Forecasting Team with daily ozone and fine particle pollution forecasts.
- Prepare and deliver a presentation summarizing project findings.
- Learn forecasting methods and techniques for air quality management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Detail-oriented student seeking an atmospheric science, meteorology, or environmental scientist degree (Undergraduate or Graduate).
- Working knowledge of using spreadsheets, data analysis
- Strong desire to learn about air quality and weather.
- Skills in statistical programming (e.g., R) desired but not required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software.
