Senior Manager, Brazil Tax
The Coca-Cola Company and its affiliates do business in over 200 countries and Brazil is an important market for the Company. The Senior Manager, Brazil Tax role is responsible for activities that optimize the company's tax profile in Brazil (corporate income tax, indirect tax, controversy); primary responsibility for performing tax research and analysis for compliance, strategic tax planning; work closely with Corporate Tax colleagues in Brazil, across LATAM and in Atlanta on structuring and tax compliance related matters; ensure Free Trade Zone requirements are met; preparing documentation of tax technical positions taken by the Company and the outcome of those positions, as well as drafting responses to local tax authority audit inquiries and administrative / judicial appeals. This position requires a candidate with tax technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to solve complex problems independently and operate effectively under pressure.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Strategic Tax Planning:
- Identify Brazil tax issues and the potential impact on the Company both locally and globally.
- Implement planning / structuring and coordinate with other functions (e.g., M&A, Treasury, Legal, CPS, Controllership, etc.) to ensure successful implementation and alignment with business objectives.
- Support Senior Director, Brazil Tax in collaborating proactively with colleagues in the Tax Department, Treasury Department, Controller's Group, and operational finance to ensure that the tax implications of transactions are properly accounted for and described in local financial statements, and tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with Free Trade Zone requirements. This includes continuous monitoring, management, and resolution of all actual and potential tax liabilities to comply with the legal requirements for the use of tax incentives.
Tax Controversy
- Coordinate tax audits, working with Controllership and other functions to effectively manage the audit.
- Execute audit strategies, aligning stakeholders (including Bottlers), and ensuring consistency in technical positions.
- Coordinate closely with external law firms and the System to assess risks and align on strategy.
- Drafting responses and identifying appropriate documents and data in responding to tax audit requests and for discussions with local tax authorities.
Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Support Controllership team in ensuring accurate and timely income tax return compliance.
- Local point of contact in transfer pricing reporting, ensuring alignment of local and global approaches in close collaboration with Transfer Pricing team and external advisors.
- Responsible for monitoring changes in tax compliance, maintaining an up-to-date overview of tax issues and compliance status communicating them to management.
- Support Controllership team in the drafting and review of tax relevant information in local financial statements.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in law or accounting. Advanced degree preferred such as J.D., LL.M., and/or Masters in Tax.
- 5+ years of experience in tax consulting in the setting of a law firm, Big 4 Accounting Firm, similar sized multinational corporation and/or government.
- Fluency in Portuguese and English required. Spanish desirable.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve complex problems independently and operate effectively under pressure
