Senior Manager - Government Relations & Public Advocacy

Position Overview:

The prospective candidate will be responsible for developing and executing a high impact government relations strategy in support of the company's business in India and South-West Asia, driving engagement across key policy makers and thought leaders in the market. He/she will be responsible for creating awareness of the organization's efforts to key government stakeholders at center, state, local levels, provide strategic advice and counsel as well as tactical support to the company's senior leadership team to achieve set goals. S/he will report to the Sr. Director, Government Affairs, based in Gurugram, India and work very closely with the VP, PACS in defining and shaping the company's position of key policy and regulatory matters with the Government authorities and regulators.

This position must have a significant and positive influence on the Government to enable future growth in India while communicating a positive image and reputation for Coca-Cola in India. S/he will build relationships with industry groups, academics and other influencers and drive positive engagement. Actively participate in relevant industry associations to develop proactive positions and messages on key public policy issues. Anticipate and proactively identify potential issues and develop action plans, jointly with the business, to address these. Manage crisis and issues relating to the company and its businesses /brands including, but not limited to safety reports, regulatory issues, and social development, etc. Through a deep understanding of the external environment within which the business operates, advise senior management on the context for business decision making and the impacts of potential decisions.

Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive Coca-Cola's engagement with policymakers and other key stakeholders across INSWA to defend and promote the company's interests.
  • Support building relationships that enable Coca-Cola to effectively engage with nodal ministries and related stakeholders; (Finance, Consumer Affairs, Food Processing, Environment, Commerce etc.) and elected officials in the Parliament.
  • Monitor policy developments across INSWA related to food and beverages that may impact the company's business
  • Develop policy positions on key issues and make them relevant and compelling to the stakeholders by conducting research, preparing communication materials, and curating thought leaderships platforms
  • Ensure strong representation by Coca-Cola in the key national trade associations and US focused industry groups and facilitate the participation of key business leaders at the company on relevant platforms.
  • Drive a strong focus on business enabling policy matters and engage the Government on potential areas of partnership and collaboration
  • Manage external agencies that support Coca-Cola on Government Affairs.

Education Requirements:
MBA / Degree in Public Policy/Law

Related Work Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in public policy, corporate affairs, and government relations preferably in a corporate position.

Functional

  • Deep understanding of Indian politics, public policy formulation, GST/taxes/regulations/incentives etc.
  • Keen interest in sustainability and circular economy initiative
  • Ability to relate public policy projects to core business objectives.
