Senior Manager, Government Relations
Role Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic professional to lead our Government Relations efforts in Japan. This role sits at the intersection of business, policy, and societal impact-shaping the external environment in which we operate while advancing our sustainability and growth agenda.
As a trusted advisor to the business, you will drive policy advocacy, engage with key government and industry stakeholders, and help shape regulatory frameworks that impact our operations. You will play a central role in positioning the company as a credible, solutions-oriented partner in priority areas such as circular economy, recycling, climate change, and health & ingredients.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy Development & Internal Alignment Partner closely with cross-functional teams to develop well-defined, forward-looking policy positions aligned with business priorities and global strategy.
- Industry Leadership & Collaboration Represent the company in industry associations and external forums. Build strong coalitions with industry peers to shape unified positions and drive collective advocacy where it matters most.
- Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement Design and execute advocacy strategies. Engage with government agencies, policymakers, and subject matter experts to advance evidence-based, practical policy solutions.
- Policy Intelligence & Strategic Insight Proactively monitor and analyze emerging policy and regulatory developments, translating complex issues into clear business implications, risks, and opportunities.
- Project Management & Execution Lead complex, time-sensitive initiatives with strong project management discipline, ensuring alignment across stakeholders and delivering outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in public policy, law, economics, political science, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in government relations, public policy, regulatory affairs, industry advocacy, or a related field.
- Native-level Japanese language proficiency (written and verbal) required.
- Business-level English proficiency (written and verbal) required.
- Strong understanding of policy-making processes and regulatory environments.
- Proven experience engaging with government agencies, industry associations, and external stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to build trust and influence without formal authority.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
