Safety Specialist
As a key member of the QSE Team, the Safety Specialist will ensure safety compliance for the New Mexico Greenfield site and key focus areas to improve safety performance, have the right priorities, expertise and initiatives to achieve our vision of 'Zero is Possible'. This will include the execution of plans, initiative implementation that supports metrics improvement, and technologies to deliver safety performance results.
Coordinate and implement the Occupational Safety Management programs in compliance with federal and state regulations and corporate requirements. Assesses matters related to Health, Safety & Security, ensures a safe and healthy workplace, and enables compliance with local regulations and standards.
Benchmark internally and externally, leverage best-in-class systems and processes for system integration, collaborate across functions, be result-oriented, be a self-starter and creative, have constructive curiosity, and bring innovative solutions.
What you'll do for us:
- Assure adherence to the site safety management system to satisfy ISO 45001 standard, KORE Requirements, and local regulations:
- Review and update the risk assessment.
- Execute regulatory and KORE compliance assessment and drive robust action plans.
- Support the annual safety program in collaboration with other plant functions, track, and assure it is completed as planned.
- Support a robust change management program.
- Review and improve related procedures and standard work instructions.
- Coordinate and/or deliver general training to new associates, contractors and/or temporary personnel and technical training to assure capabilities are developed within the organisation.
- Ensure safety data is reported accurately and timely.
- Perform internal audits to keep improving the system and support site audit readiness for ISO and GAO audits.
- Participate in the emergency and incident management plans improvement, training and assist with on-site management and off-site emergency services and exercises.
- Assure adherence with the injury and illness prevention plan, support track safety performance, and ensure appropriate reporting. Use the TCCC reporting system (KOSMOS) to analyse trends and use them to drive relevant strategies.
- Develop and manage plant security programs in accordance with company standards and local requirements, including key areas of electronic systems (Access control, perimeter detection, fire protection), manned guarding, contractors, and visitors.
- Manage the safety budget, recommend cost savings, and proactively negotiate with vendors and suppliers.
- Collaborate and benchmark internally and externally to ensure safety programs, guidelines and tools remain current and reflect the latest thinking, and to share best practices.
- Build a strong safety culture starting with the leadership team, the general manager, and frontline leaders.
- Maintain open communication and relationships within all levels of the organisation, including other CPS location Safety colleagues, CPS QSE Leadership Team, external government agencies and key stakeholders.
- Ensure dynamic CPS OSH communication within our network to standardise processes, drive priorities, showcase best practices, and share learnings in case of incidents.
- Contribute to CPS QSE Management System development, improvement and ensure integration/standardisation.
- Advise senior management on strategies for Facility Fire Prevention & Protection, to ensure compliance with Corporate & Insurance requirements, and to minimise financial loss of assets due to fires.

Requirements & Qualification
Functional Skills
- Functional Expertise in Occupational Health, Safety and Security
ISO 45001, safety and security risk assessment, regulations, OHS KORE requirements, BBS, human and organisational performance (HOP), safety engineering controls, ergonomics, chemical risk, industrial hygiene, work at height, confined space, fire protection, contractor management, fleet safety, machinery safety, security technologies, internal audit skills, problem-solving skills, creativity, and critical thinking... - Management Expertise
Strong experience in technical team leadership role, collaborating and managing teamwork, good communication and presentation skills for all personnel levels. Ability to interact with cultural differences between global regions.
Education requirements & related work experience
- Bachelor's/Master's degree, in Occupational Health and Safety or a relevant technical area,
- 5+ years' Safety experience, with a preference for managing teams and workplace safety.
- Outstanding communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Project management knowledge and experience.
