Job Description:

Department Overview:

The Financial Restructuring Group (FRG) is a specialized team within Business Banking, focused on managing high-risk commercial lending relationships across Canada. FRG serves as the center of excellence for handling complex risk situations, corporate debt restructuring, and insolvency.

The Commercial National Accounts (CNA) team within FRG manages the largest high-risk clients nationally, including both bilateral and syndicated loan facilities. The team collaborates closely with originating offices to maintain client relationships and manage risk.

FRG Mandate:

  • Restructure and retain quality commercial clients for TD.
  • Share expertise and provide guidance to originating offices on managing high-risk situations.
  • Support Business Banking profitability by maximizing loan recovery, minimizing loan losses, and pricing loans appropriately for risk.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of financially troubled companies, providing advice and restructuring their debt to help them remain viable, long-term TD clients.
  • Minimize loan losses and protect TD's brand.
  • Oversee accounts with over $15 million in exposure, including complex cash flow loans and syndicated debt (where TD may be lead or participant).
  • Provide "shadow" coverage for designated accounts, acting as an internal advisor while the originating team retains ownership of the relationship.
  • Maintain a network of internal and external contacts, including Commercial Credit Risk Management, TD Securities, originating offices, and external professionals (lawyers, accountants, receivers, trustees).

People Management:

  • Directly manage Associate Directors and/or Commercial Service Officers.
  • Ensure credit submissions from Associate Directors are clear, concise, and compliant with TD policies and standards.
  • Responsible for developing and supporting direct reports.

Additional Accountabilities:

  • Assess and manage risk by analyzing client situations and applying TD's lending policies and guidelines.
  • Develop strategies and solutions to minimize risk and support clients during restructuring.
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients during the restructuring process.
  • Set loan pricing and fees based on risk profile and work required.

Qualifications:

  • Over 7 years of combined commercial credit and origination experience, including lending to large companies with syndicated financing.
  • Experience in relationship management, either in origination or restructuring, with strong listening, understanding, and challenging skills for partners and clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clarity and brevity.
  • Credit adjudication experience and/or professional designations (CPA, CFA, MBA, CBV) are assets.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
