As the lead for the legal team supporting TD Asset Management (TDAM) globally, you'll be at the forefront of strategic decision-making, regulatory advocacy, and enterprise-wide risk management. You will be involved in providing legal and regulatory advice in relation to a broad range of public and private investment products (including ETF's, public funds, private funds, and alternative funds) and their related activities including portfolio & investment fund management. This is more than a legal position, it's an opportunity to be the advisor to TDAM's senior executives and work with a broad range of stakeholders across the bank to influence governance, drive innovation, and deliver seamless, high-impact solutions that enable the business' objectives. You'll lead a team of talented professionals, champion TD's performance and development culture, and play a critical role in advancing our leadership agenda. You will also manage external counsel relationships in various jurisdictions in accordance with the bank's external counsel management program.

Accountabilities
- Oversight of legal team supporting TD Asset Management's businesses in Canada and globally
- Acting as point on key strategic initiatives, by representing TD Legal on various internal governance and product committees
- Coordinating with industry peers and regulators on regulatory change and advocacy issues, and
- Engaging in leadership activities and responsibilities to support the broader TD Legal Department.
- Trusted advisor to the GC and other senior legal leadership
- Escalating significant LRC Risk issues as appropriate
- Focus on appropriate talent utilization and support career development of team members
- Coordinating with the TD legal leadership team and other corporate groups to provide seamless advice to SET and the portfolio businesses
- Effective LRC Risk management is a result of enterprise-wide collaboration, requiring partnership with the Businesses & Corporate Functions to identify, assess, control, test and monitor LRC Risk, including transactional, product, service, change management; corporate business or general business activity; significant regulatory investigations, regulatory enforcement actions and internal investigations; & merger & acquisition transaction activity.
- Lead and develop a highly effective and respected team of legal leaders by ensuring effective and on-going performance management practices are in place
- Advance and sustain TD's leadership development and employee experience agenda by: aligning people-planning activities at all levels to TD's priorities; and building TD's performance and development culture and its unique differentiated employee experience
Key Qualifications & Capabilities
- Law degree from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in Ontario
- 10+ years as a corporate lawyer with a major law firm or in a large corporate organization with securities law experience with a specialization in retail mutual funds and ETF's and institutional asset management
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to identify and focus on high value, high-risk work and to think critically
- Ability to accurately assess legal risk within the business context
- Ability to work in a dynamic, detail oriented environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Ability to deal effectively with senior officers and have an impact and influence on decision making
- Proven ability to manage and motivate a diverse group of professionals
- Strong people management skills with demonstrated experience in leading high performing teams
- Strong collaborator who engages colleagues, business partners, external stakeholders, and employees
- Skillful communication (written and verbal), negotiation and partnership skills to balance partner input but remain objective to reach the right outcome - ability to stay resilient under pressure
- Demonstrated relationship building skills, with the ability to make things happen using positive influence
- Strong people leader who can work effectively in teams across the bank with multiple partners and is adept at influencing and aligning others
