Join Spectrum as an Inside Plant Engineer II, where you'll troubleshoot, maintain and enhance network elements and connections across Voice, Internet, Video and access services. How You'll Make an Impact
- Troubleshoot, maintain and support network elements and connections to ensure optimum performance and service delivery
- Install, configure and operate headend equipment, including coaxial, fiber and Ethernet cabling, adhering to proper engineering practices
- Monitor and maintain environmental systems such as HVAC, power, fire suppression and coordinate with vendors for reliable operations
- Conduct root cause analysis, perform acceptance testing and handle escalated trouble calls for network and facility issues
- Maintain logs, records and documentation to comply with Spectrum and FCC technical requirements
- Execute daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly testing, logging and facility inspections according to Spectrum procedures
- Develop and implement network enhancements and support backup power systems, utilizing advanced troubleshooting tools
Working Conditions
- Work in a 24/7 fast-paced environment

- Travel and work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Perform duties day or night near power facilities and electricity

- Bachelor's Degree in Electronics/Technology or Sciences or equivalent work experience preferred
- NCTI Fiber Installation & Activation Course, Valid Certification from the Society of Cable Telecommunication Engineers (SCTE) BTCS, and NCTI Fiber Testing & Maintenance Course or NCTI Master Technician Certification
Experience
- 4+ years of Headend Technician, Network implementation or electronics work experience
Skills
- Knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Physical Media/Cabling Intermediate understanding of being an individual contributor within operations team and working to achieve team and organizational goals
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to solve complex issues
- Intermediate knowledge of Fiber test equipment - OTDR, OSA
- Intermediate knowledge of RF Signal Delivery
- Intermediate knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
- Basic knowledge of network devices; routing and switching hardware
- Intermediate knowledge of Critical infrastructure - HVAC, Generators, DC Plants and inverters
- Intermediate operational knowledge of DOCSIS architecture and capacity management
- Intermediate knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
- Intermediate knowledge of design software such as Microsoft Visio
- Intermediate knowledge of existing Charter Application/Network data sources, such as InCUR
- Basic Knowledge in IPv4 and IPv6 IP Addressing
- Basic operational knowledge of Video/VOD/SDV Delivery systems including controllers, content acquisition
- Intermediate knowledge of ISP Playbook
- Intermediate skills in methodical, logical and process driven troubleshooting
- Intermediate knowledge of HFC design and operational experience
- Intermediate Knowledge of Microwave CARS band and IP transport radios and their performance
- Intermediate understanding of how to measure, detect, and record voltage, amperage, and resistance
- Demonstrates effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
- Intermediate knowledge Fiber Coax (HFC) and DOCSIS/CMTS
- Must demonstrate the ability to adapt and change to ensure the successes of the business
- Ability to drive Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner
- Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards
- Ability to use personal computer, software applications, handheld communication devices and applications
- Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires
- Ability to work with small components and wires to make cable connections within tight spaces by bending, reaching, and twisting
- Ability to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers
- Ability to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as ladders) within the maximum limitations of that equipment)
- Ability to read system layouts from blue prints, system maps, and measure distances using tapes or other measuring devices
- Ability to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively and work independently
- Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics
- Advanced knowledge of Transport Technologies CWDM, DWDM, SONET, T1, Ethernet and wireless technologies
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge in the use of a computer to compile databases, create documents and interact with various GUI based interfaces
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge in design, installation and maintenance of critical systems
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of network test equipment
- Ability to work while standing 50-70% of the time
- Ability to safely lift up to 50lbs individually or with assistance
Preferred Qualifications
Education
- Valid certifications pertaining to critical facility infrastructure and Optical Transport
Skills
- Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including ladders and fully loaded tool belts
- Ability to perform job from high places (roofs)
- Advanced Knowledge of company products and services
- Advanced Knowledge of National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code
- Advanced knowledge in local and wide area networking communications
- Advanced knowledge of support systems for network management and element management systems
