Job Summary
The Staff Systems Engineer (V) performs requirements analysis and management, technical planning, systems level design, systems integration, verification and validation, cost and risk management, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for new development projects. Analyses are performed during all phases of the product development process to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance. The Systems Engineer will provide guidance in the development of new systems and components functioning as a Lead and Subject Matter Expert in this area.
A successful candidate should have experience in the implementation, integration and qualification of emerging technologies. Experience of passive depth sensing solutions for soldier mounted systems would be an advantage. A track record of working with new vendors or new technologies and implementing them on product designs is required. Experience leading a team of systems engineers and developing systems engineering best practices is also preferred.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Lead customer interactions with regard to influencing and understanding Voice of the Customer and product requirements
- Define and execute trade studies that result in selection of the most optimal approach to complex design and architecture issues. Engage with suppliers to evaluate candidate solutions.
- Models Sparton's core values, providing mentorship and technical leadership to the Engineering team.
- Provides guidance on MBSE best practices. Lead customer interactions with regard to influencing and understanding Voice of the Customer and product requirements
- Define and execute trade studies that result in selection of the most optimal approach to complex design and architecture issues. Engage with suppliers to evaluate candidate solutions.
- Models Sparton's core values, providing mentorship and technical leadership to the Engineering team.
- Provides guidance on MBSE best practices.
- Performs workforce planning and resource allocation in coordination with Engineering Functional Leadership and Engineering Business Unit Leads and Human Resources.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other Sparton Business Units.
- Fully understands systems engineering process.
- Ensures lessons learned are identified and incorporated into the standards process.
- Support proposal development activities, including proposal text development, cost estimating, and presentation activities
- Review, develop, and document system level requirements, CONOPS, and mission statements.
- Work with all Technical functions to develop and document product architectures that meet technical, cost and schedule goals.
- Perform requirements management, analysis, and allocations on complex systems design.
- Ability to effectively document and communicate designs, results, reports, and presentations
- Produce and/or review technical documents, specifications and standards
- Research, conceptualize, and evaluate complex system architectures and product designs, recommend design modifications to improve product performance, cost, reliability, and development schedule (can be activity lead or in supporting role)
- Lead system integration efforts including hands-on evaluation of prototypes
- Plan and support verification and validation activities for complex system designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements
- Prepare and/or deliver technical presentations to customers, Sparton management, or development team
- Provide regular and clear communication to customers, Sparton affiliates, government officials, and other contractors as required
- Work independently and with internal/external organizations
- Recommend tools to improve systems engineering design processes and procedures
- Fully understand internal systems engineering procedures, mentor entry level engineers
- Familiarity with Agile product development approach
- Other related duties assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications
- Hold an accredited Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Electro-optical, Software or Systems Engineering, Applied Physics or other related engineering degrees
- 15+ years of systems engineering experience with BS or 12+ years with Master's Degree
- Must be a highly effective communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Experience with requirements management tools, such as JAMA, required.
- CMMI, AS 9100 and ISO 9000 process development experience.
Skills and Abilities
- US Citizenship is required, mut be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. security clearance
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and tools.
- Capability to adapt to industry-wide used modeling and requirements management tools as needed.
- Ability to integrate into a small, high-performing engineering team.
- Must possess a high level of professional knowledge and skills to resolve product, process and system design.
- Applied hands-on implementation expertise in product system architecture and requirements management tools.
- Ability to properly manage customer expectations and clearly understand their requirements.
- Ability to prepare successful customer proposals.
