Job Summary
Working under minimal supervision, the Operations Director will provide direct supervision of production to include management oversight of all shop floor operational activities. Ensures that manufacturing produces products in accordance with company and customer requirements.

Responsibilities and Tasks
- Directs the implementation and execution of manufacturing policies and practices throughout the organization
- Develops and implements operating standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety and on-time delivery
- Establishes policies in the areas of Lean Manufacturing, materials usage, shipping and receiving, capacity planning, production scheduling, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations and performance measures
- Recommends and implements strategic and tactical changes in manufacturing and operations strategy
- Leads production team capable of carrying out needed operations strategies and improving employee relations
- Provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate faster improvements and improved working relationships
- Administers operations budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements
- Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations
- Follows the documented management system, including the Quality Policy
- Utilizes root cause analysis to implement corrective actions
- Promotes teamwork and build a culture of continuous improvement and employee empowerment
- Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards
- Complies with all applicable OSHA and EPA regulations
- All other duties as assigned
Education, Experience & License or Certification
- Bachelor degree in an engineering or business discipline (Master's degree preferred),
- A minimum of 12 years progressive operations experience with strong experience in leading operations teams and budgets, managing or establishing a quality management system, managing all aspects of environmental, health and safety in a production environment, establishing and managing production and quality metrics, leading Kaizens, process improvement, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, 5S, TPM, and TPI.
- Strong leadership experience in a manufacturing organization with proven results motivating others, increasing productivity, managing performance, along with rewards and recognition program support.
Skills and Abilities
- This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US within the meaning of ITAR. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Working with other functional areas, such as Finance, HR, Supply Chain Management, Business Development, and IT, to ensure Operations is being managed effectively and receiving the proper support from the organization
- In depth knowledge of compliance with GMP, OSHA, EPA and other pertinent regulations/guidance documents.
- Demonstrated project success with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma/Black Belt quality initiatives in a high mix low volume assembly and manufacturing environment.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem solving abilities, as well as proven ability to collaborate, work and lead in a team environment.
- Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write technical documents. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations to management, customers and suppliers
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis (e.g., using exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations).
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems (e.g., using formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.).
- Computer Skills: Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Manufacturing software, Database software
- Electronics contract manufacturing experience preferred
- Experience in the application of NASA Standards preferred.
- CQE certification preferred
- Certified Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt preferred
- Mechanical background a plus
