GLOBAL SUPPLY MANAGER (CRYOGENIC & POWER GENERATION CAPITAL)

The SpaceX supply chain department is a critical player in our operations. This role will be part of the launch site supply chain team and will be based out of Cape Canaveral, FL. The Global Supply Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the cryogenic & power Generation Capital supply chain team. This position is responsible for end-to-end management of global suppliers providing critical components and capital equipment for cryogenic systems and power generation hardware. You will drive sourcing strategies, supplier performance, mitigate risks, optimize costs, and ensure on-time delivery to support high-volume production ramps for the Starship program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create sourcing strategies for assigned categories to reduce risk and meet targets for the purchasing department
  • Develop and maintain key internal stakeholder relationships to create strategic sourcing models that optimize the value of products and services that support business unit requirements to maintain continuous cost reduction programs for controllable expenditures
  • Present confidently to company executives and key decision makers on high-stakes negotiations and launch critical response events
  • Communicate, manage, and drive compliance for sourcing strategies
  • Identify and execute cost reduction projects, including planning, coordinating with stakeholders, estimating completion, and project updates
  • Perform advanced quantitative and business process analyses to identify financial impacts of decisions, cost improvement, and performance for assigned categories
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) for suppliers and measure the appropriate criteria, such as: delivery of business results, cost reduction, quality, and timeliness of delivery
  • Conduct research, perform benchmarking, and gather market analysis for assigned categories
  • Create contract documents in collaboration with the legal department
  • Manage contracts to ensure the performance of the supplier to contract obligations
  • Understand interrelationships between contracts and terms while applying creativity and sound business reasoning to interpret application of contract to business needs
  • Maximize value and cost savings benefits while lowering risk through strategic negotiations
  • Identify and drive year over year cost optimization through reducing usage and eliminating waste within our operations
  • Establish preferred suppliers for assigned categories
  • Create and implement management programs to develop, continuously improve, manage the performance of, and monitor KPIs of the supply base
  • Place purchase orders and resolve blocked invoices related to assigned categories
  • Develop and lead efforts to reduce the number of transactions for assigned categories

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree and 4+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; or bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; or 10+ years of experience working in one or more of the following:
    • Engineering
    • Purchasing
    • Contract negotiation
    • Material or production planning
    • Operations or supply chain management
    • Material cost control
  • 1+ years of experience working with propellants, cryogenics, oil & gas bulk commodities, carriers, and/or large capital equipment procurement

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in cryogenic systems (LNG, LOX/LN2), power generation (turbines, gensets), or rocket propulsion supply chains
  • Experience sourcing air separation units (ASUs) to support liquid oxygen and nitrogen production
  • Experience sourcing specialized, vacuum-insulated pressure vessels (tanks)
  • Experience sourcing power generation equipment (gas turbines)
  • Ability to read technical drawings and work with engineering BOMs
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills in current technologies and applications (e.g., MS Office Suite, SQL, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Experience with technical procurement or manufacturing
  • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to executive leadership
  • Thrives in ambiguity, with a bias for action and in a startup-like culture
  • Remarkable problem-solving skills with a bias for speed and positive impact
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral
  • Must be able to travel - up to 25% of work week travel may be required, including international travel
  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to meet major milestones
  • This position is based in Cape Canaveral, FL and requires being onsite - remote work not considered
