Become a Program Engineer (Power System Operation Specialists 3) at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you'll be providing support to the Grid Control Center by collaborating with different work groups within SCE, create outlines/outages (Move Programs) for capital projects, while maintaining a safety-conscious work environment. Responsibilities

  • Develops comprehensive outage coordination plans, coordinating with other departments and keeping them updated on any upcoming scheduled outages.
  • Consults on complex system reliability issues, developing strategic solutions to substation issues.
  • Partners with operations leadership to evaluate outage requests to ensure compliance with applicable budgets.
  • Collaborates with protection engineering on system protection schemes, maintaining a safety conscious work environment at all times.
  • Maintains and updates documentation and data policies in line with NERC/WECC compliance standards, staying up to date on any relevant regulatory changes.
  • Prepares and updates firm load shedding programs by season.
  • Mentors grid operators on new and existing computer applications and participates in required training to maintain job knowledge.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

  • Seven or more years of experience in electric system operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Knowledge of NERC standards, WECC policies, and CAISO procedures.
  • Ability to integrate work across relevant areas, manage risks appropriately, process/analyze information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Effectively communicate technical processes between different groups regarding capitol projects.
  • Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to know the latest relevant technology and innovation.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with iTOA (Integrated Tools for Outage Analysis) software, including outage request creation, validation, and workflow management.
  • Knowledge in outage request coordination procedures, including compliance requirements, scheduling practices, and integration with CAISO and internal operational processes.
  • Working knowledge of substations, substation equipment, sub-transmission and Transmission systems.
  • Working knowledge of system protection principles, including protective relaying, switching procedures, and the impacts of protection schemes.

Additional Information

  • This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • The primary work location for this position is Alhambra. However, the successful candidate may have the option to work at another SCE facility.
  • Position will require up to 25% travel and being out in the field in a specific area in the SCE service territory to conduct job walks.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • This position is a Department of Transportation (DOT) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
