THE ROLE

The post-holder will be expected to demonstrate strong analytical and technical skills to provide timely information, knowledge and insight to various internal customers across the whole of the global business.

The post offers the opportunity to influence opinion within the organisation based on insight into the business and therefore requires accuracy, clarity and maturity to deliver actionable information.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Business Intelligence

  • Conduct analysis to support the business objectives and to answer business questions
  • Work with BI London and New York, Data Quality and IT to resolve issues
  • Compile mailing lists for catalogues and mailing campaigns
  • Run ad hoc queries and reports
  • Conduct research
  • Support the specialist departments including but not limited to Business Intelligence and Data Quality
  • Support Head of Department and other BI analysts in Hong Kong

Data Quality

  • Liaise with technical staff and business users to communicate the data quality requirements for Asia
  • Various administrative tasks including updating client information and data entry
  • Ensure the quality of the Asian client information within the Client System is regularly reviewed, particularly focusing on newly created Asian Client accounts (Worldwide) in Asia Art sales weeks in global locations including but not limited to:
    • duplicated and house-holded client profiles
    • layout, name and address details are correct to assist search criteria
    • Report on changes made and present suggestions going forward
  • Facilitate the company’s effectiveness in complying with the Hong Kong Data Protection Act by reaching out to new clients and confirming their consent to mail to them

Other Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Bids Department’s function
  • Day to day sales support including but not limited to telephone, absentee and online bids, and clerking
  • Respond to client’s enquiries during sales
  • Other ad hoc assignments
  • Operate at all times in line with corporate governance and compliance policies, practices and procedures

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Fluent in English and Cantonese is essential. Fluent Mandarin is highly desirable
  • Essential: Must be highly proficient with MS Office applications (particularly Excel, preferably including VBA)
  • Desirable: Not less than 2 years relevant experience in business analysis, data mining and execution of database campaign
  • Be self-directed to expand the scope of technical competencies, and communicate these effectively to other members of the department
  • Have a good understanding of all aspects of Sotheby’s business and the external factors affecting the company
  • Be organized and detail-oriented, and have excellent prioritization skills
  • Work well in a team
  • Be able to work independently to meet goals and deadlines
