WJLA Practicum (Summer 2026)

As part of our commitment to community service and educational enrichment, ABC 7/WJLA 24/7 News is offering a summer practicum program designed for graduate students interested in pursuing careers in broadcast and/or cable television. This program is available to selected participants currently enrolled in institutions of higher learning. Students will gain hands-on experience in all phases of a major-market television station's day-to-day operations, complementing their academic curriculum.

Eligibility/Qualifications:

ABC 7/WJLA 24/7 News internships are open to only graduate students from the Medill Master's in Journalism program from Northwestern University. Applicants should have declared majors in Communications, Journalism, Broadcast Production, or a related field. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

General Qualifications:

  • Current graduate student at the Medill Master's in Journalism program
  • Able to receive academic credit for the internship
  • Responsible, professional, and experienced with prior internships and/or work experience
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team or independently
  • Creative self-starter with strong communication skills who can work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Willingness to work mornings, nights, and/or weekends to support varying newscast hours (we will do our best to accommodate your schedule)
