Warehouse Associate
1st shift: 6a-2:30 p M-F with weekend and weekday overtime as needed
Job Summary
The primary responsibility for this role is maintaining a safe, accurate, and continuous flow of materials from warehouse or staging areas to designated points of use. The role follows established replenishment routes and signals, delivers the correct material in the correct quantity and condition, and completes required SAP or scanner transactions so physical and system inventory remain aligned. The Water Spider responds quickly to shortages and changing priorities, protects line-side organization and inventory accuracy, and communicates risks before they interrupt production. As a Tech II team member, the employee must also be cross-trained and flexible enough to perform other warehouse activities assigned within the Tech II level or below. The role is also expected to conduct structured on-the-job training for newly hired or transferred employees after demonstrating qualifications in the applicable process.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform water-spider and point-of-use replenishment activities as the primary function of the role, maintaining consistent route coverage and material availability for assigned production areas.
- Follow the approved replenishment schedule, route, Kanban signal, pull signal, dispatch, or other standard process to deliver materials at the required time and location.
- Pick, transport, stage, and replenish the correct material and quantity according to labels, production requirements, standard work, and established line-side minimum and maximum levels.
- Verify material number, description, quantity, unit of measure, batch or serial information when applicable, source location, and destination before moving or staging material.
- Complete all required SAP, handheld scanner, or approved system transactions at the correct process step so the physical movement and system record remain aligned.
- Use only approved movement types, storage locations, bins, and processes; do not bypass required transactions or perform inventory adjustments unless specifically trained and authorized.
- Monitor line-side inventory, empty containers, Kanban cards, shortage signals, and replenishment triggers; respond with urgency to prevent material-related production interruptions.
- Investigate routine discrepancies by checking labels, bins, staging areas, open requirements, and recent material movements before escalating.
- Report shortages, damaged or suspect material, incorrect labels, quantity discrepancies, blocked aisles, equipment problems, and system issues promptly to the appropriate team leader or supervisor.
- When escalating, provide the material number, quantity, source and destination, production impact, checks already completed, and support required.
- Maintain clear aisles, defined staging locations, FIFO or other required material-rotation practices, container control, and line-side 5S standards.
- Safely operate carts, pallet jacks, tuggers, waves, pickers, scanners, and other assigned equipment only when trained, certified, and authorized.
- Coordinate with production, kitting, receiving, put-away, cycle count, and warehouse leadership to align priorities and resolve material-flow constraints.
- Conduct on-the-job training for newly hired or transferred employees using approved standard work; demonstrate the task, observe practice, correct unsafe or inaccurate execution, and communicate training progress or gaps to leadership.
- Maintain cross-training and demonstrated proficiency in other applicable Tech II and lower-level warehouse processes.
- Perform other Tech II-or-below warehouse operations as assigned for staffing coverage, workload, or business needs, including material handling, picking, kitting support, staging, housekeeping, and related scanner or approved SAP transactions when trained and authorized.
- Escalate immediately when the correct material cannot be located or delivered within the expected response time, a discrepancy requires another function to correct, or the condition creates risk to safety, quality, inventory accuracy, or production continuity.
- Experience in warehouse, material handling, kitting, replenishment, logistics, or manufacturing operations is preferred.
- Ability to learn and correctly execute assigned SAP, handheld scanner, or comparable warehouse-system transactions.
- Ability to read and interpret material labels, part numbers, quantities, units of measure, bins, storage locations, production-area locations, and replenishment signals.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to matching physical material movement with system transactions.
- Ability to follow standard work, established routes, safety requirements, and material-handling controls consistently.
- Ability to recognize abnormal conditions, investigate basic discrepancies, and communicate issues clearly before escalating.
- Ability to organize priorities, work with urgency, and maintain dependable route and area coverage with limited supervision.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and coordinate effectively with warehouse, production, and support teams.
- Ability to meet the physical and schedule requirements of the warehouse environment and operate applicable equipment only when trained, certified, and authorized.
