Job Overview

We are looking for a passionate Usability Engineer to develop and enhance the usability of complex software systems in the domain of industrial automation and enterprise software. You will work in close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure intuitive, efficient, and user-centered product design with a strong focus on customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Usability Engineering & Development

  • Design and improve usability for modules of technically complex software products.
  • Employ standard Usability Engineering processes across the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with software developers and internal stakeholders.

User Research & Analysis
  • Conduct user research to understand context of use, user behavior, and workflows.
  • Translate user insights into clear user requirements and usability goals.

Interaction Design & Prototyping
  • Design navigation structures and interaction flows.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and detailed specifications using modern design tools.
  • Ensure alignment with best practices in UX and industrial interface design and internal standards.

Usability Testing & Evaluation
  • Plan and conduct usability testing sessions and expert reviews.
  • Analyze test results and provide actionable design improvements.

Collaboration
  • Work in a collaborative team environment with other usability engineers, designers, and software developers.
  • Contribute to a positive, innovative, and user-focused culture.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, UX Design, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Solid knowledge of usability principles and interaction design standards, especially ISO 9241.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping tools such as:
    • Figma
    • Axure
  • Strong ability to quickly understand complex technical domains.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail, systematic, and structured approach to work.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken), knowledge of German is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the domains of industrial automation or technical software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with working in cross-functional, agile and international teams.
  • Enthusiasm for modern interaction technologies and user-centered design.
