Sr. Manager - Downstream Planning

The Downstream Planning Leader is accountable for end-to-end downstream planning performance for a manufacturing site and assigned product lines. The role ensures robust Master Production Planning (MPS), efficient downstream material and product flows, and strong alignment between demand, capacity, production, and supply execution to secure service level, cost, and inventory objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Master Production Planning (MPS)

  • Own and drive Master Production Planning for the manufacturing site and product lines, including:
    • Forecasted workload consolidation
    • Capacity planning and leveling
    • Production output definition
    • Scenario analysis and risk anticipation
  • Translate demand forecasts into feasible and executable production plans considering capacity, labor, materials, and operational constraints.
  • Provide reliable production plans and forecasts as input to:
    • Upstream supply planning
    • Supplier forecasting and procurement activities
  • Ensure plan robustness, consistency, and alignment with site capabilities.

  • Organize and optimize downstream flows from the manufacturing plant, including:
    • Finished goods availability
    • Deployment and distribution readiness
    • Inventory positioning
  • Monitor and improve manufacturing supply chain performance, focusing on:
    • Customer service and OTIF
    • Plan adherence and schedule stability
    • Inventory levels and obsolescence reduction
    • Lead time and responsiveness
  • Identify bottlenecks, constraints, and inefficiencies, and drive corrective actions with operations and logistics.

Anticipation & Risk Management
  • Anticipate manufacturing risks related to:
    • Capacity saturation
    • Demand volatility
    • Supply or operational constraints
  • Proactively prepare mitigation plans and propose scenarios to secure supply continuity.
  • Act as the key planning escalation point for short-term execution issues impacting customer service or production stability.

Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Act as the main interface between:
    • Manufacturing and industrial teams
    • Upstream planning and procurement
    • Customer service, sales, and logistics
  • Lead and contribute to operational planning forums (MPS reviews, S&OE, execution meetings).
  • Ensure planning decisions are clearly communicated and understood by all stakeholders.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead and develop the downstream planning team (direct or matrix responsibility).
  • Strengthen planning capabilities, standards, and ways of working.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to planning processes, data quality, tools, and governance.
  • Contribute to supply chain transformation and digitalization initiatives at site or network level.
