Senior Software Engineer II
About the Role:
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer II to lead the design and development of data connectors that power our EcoStruxure Building Data Platform and Connector Hosting Solution.
This role sits at the core of our IoT ingestion architecture, building high‑reliability, high‑volume connectors that transform raw device telemetry into structured, semantic data for downstream analytics, applications, and automation.
You will design ETL-style data connectors for diverse building‑systems protocols and IoT devices, ensure secure and scalable data handling, and drive connector architecture across edge‑to‑cloud and cloud-to-cloud flows.
This role is ideal for a senior IoT or data engineer who thrives in event-driven, cloud-native environments and enjoys shaping foundational ingestion infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
IoT Data Connector Development
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality IoT data connectors that collect, transform, and transmit data from a variety of devices and systems.
- Implement and optimize ingestion pipelines for ETL-style processing, ensuring efficient data collection, cleaning, mapping, and delivery into the EcoStruxure Building Data Platform.
- Develop IoT data-handling logic, including schema validation, error handling, batching, throttling, and event-driven transformation.
IoT Systems Integration & Architecture
- Architect and build connector solutions that integrate IoT sensors, controllers, and systems into cloud platforms.
- Ensure interoperability across heterogeneous IoT systems by implementing robust data models and translation mechanisms.
- Design secure and scalable IoT architectures that ensure reliable data transfer from device to cloud.
Security & Compliance
- Implement secure data-handling practices, ensuring privacy, encryption, authentication, and role-based access control across connector workflows.
- Contribute to threat modeling and hardening of connector components to protect IoT networks and data.
Testing, Validation & Quality
- Collaborate with QA teams to validate data flow correctness, event-handling logic, edge-case behaviors, and connector performance.
- Support automated and manual testing for ingestion accuracy, ETL correctness, and protocol compliance.
- Assist in debugging complex cross‑system issues involving devices, networks, cloud, and data models.
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Work with product managers, IoT engineers, and platform teams to define connector requirements and capabilities.
- Mentor engineers and drive engineering best practices for IoT data pipeline development.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years focused on IoT, data connectors, ETL pipelines, or distributed systems.
- Expertise in developing IoT data ingestion pipelines, including data collection, cleaning, transformation, and storage.
- Strong programming skills (C# and .NET).
- Familiarity with IoT communication protocols (MQTT, BACnet, Modbus, OPC UA, REST APIs).
- Experience building and deploying cloud-native applications (Azure IoT, AWS IoT, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, messaging, and event-driven architectures.
- Knowledge of security practices for IoT data flows including encryption, authentication, and device-to-cloud security models.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building connectors for building automation systems, industrial protocols, or building‑data models.
- Familiarity with semantic data layers such as Brick, Haystack, or similar metadata frameworks.
- Background in hardware‑software integration or IoT environments.
- Prior contributions to ETL frameworks, data modeling, or ingestion platform architectures.
