Senior Procurement Engineer

Position Summary

The Senior Procurement Engineer is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that ensure the timely availability of direct materials while optimizing total cost, quality, delivery, innovation, and sustainability objectives.

This role leads supplier sourcing and management activities, contract negotiations, cost reduction initiatives, risk mitigation programs, and strategic procurement projects. The position collaborates closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Finance, and Global Procurement teams to support business growth, continuity of supply, and operational excellence.

As an experienced individual contributor, this role operates with a high degree of autonomy, influences sourcing decisions across the organization, and provides guidance to less experienced procurement professionals. The role combines strategic thinking with operational execution to deliver measurable business value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Sourcing & Category Management

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for assigned direct material categories.
• Analyze market trends, supplier capabilities, and industry dynamics to support sourcing decisions.
• Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities through supplier negotiations, value engineering, and productivity programs.
• Support new product introductions and localization initiatives through supplier selection and sourcing strategies.
• Drive alignment between procurement objectives and business priorities.

• Establish and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers.
• Conduct supplier performance reviews covering cost, quality, delivery, service, innovation, and sustainability metrics.
• Lead supplier development initiatives to improve overall performance and competitiveness.
• Manage supplier escalation processes and facilitate effective resolution of commercial and supply-related issues.
• Promote long-term supplier partnerships that support business objectives.

• Lead commercial negotiations for pricing, contracts, terms, and conditions.
• Ensure procurement agreements mitigate commercial, operational, and supply chain risks.
• Monitor contract compliance and supplier commitments.
• Support contract renewals and amendments while ensuring alignment with company policies.

• Perform detailed cost analysis and benchmarking activities.
• Develop annual productivity and cost reduction plans.
• Monitor material cost performance and identify corrective actions when needed.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities related to direct procurement.
• Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) improvements.

• Identify and assess supplier, market, geopolitical, and operational risks.
• Develop mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity.
• Monitor supplier financial health and capacity constraints.
• Support dual sourcing, localization, and supplier diversification initiatives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on crisis management and recovery plans.

• Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Finance, and Product Management teams.
• Understand internal stakeholder requirements and translate them into sourcing solutions.
• Support procurement activities for new products, transfers, and strategic projects.
• Ensure procurement decisions align with operational, quality, and business requirements.

• Utilize procurement systems and analytics tools to support data-driven decision making.
• Maintain procurement and supplier data accuracy.
• Generate sourcing reports, performance dashboards, and business reviews.
• Support digital transformation and process improvement initiatives within procurement.

• Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, policies, and governance.
• Apply lean and continuous improvement methodologies to enhance efficiency.
• Share best practices across procurement teams.
• Support organizational capability building by mentoring junior procurement professionals.

• Bachelor's degree in Supply chain management, Procurement, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
• Master's Degree or professional procurement certification (CIPS, CPSM, CPM, or equivalent) is an advantage.

• Typically, 5+ years of experience in procurement, sourcing, supply chain, or supplier management.
• Strong experience in direct material sourcing within a manufacturing environment.
• Proven record in supplier negotiations, contract management, and cost reduction programs.
• Experience managing strategic suppliers and cross-functional projects.
