Senior Engineering Buyer

Position Summary

Motivair by Schneider Electric is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Engineering Buyer to support engineering and product development initiatives throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) lifecycle. This role serves as the primary procurement partner for engineering teams, ensuring the timely sourcing and delivery of prototype materials, components, tooling, and services required to meet development milestones.

The Senior Engineering Buyer will collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, and Strategic Sourcing teams to identify and develop supplier partnerships, manage prototype procurement activities, and drive supplier performance to support innovation, speed to market, and business growth.
What Will You Do?
Product Development & Engineering Support

  • Partner with engineering teams to support sourcing and procurement activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Procure prototype components, fabricated parts, assemblies, tooling, and engineering services required for development projects.
  • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) by coordinating supplier updates and material changes.
  • Ensure timely delivery of prototype materials to support development schedules, testing, and validation activities.
  • Monitor and communicate procurement status, lead times, risks, and mitigation plans to project stakeholders.
Prototype Supplier Development
  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and onboard prototype and low-volume manufacturing suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain a supplier network capable of supporting rapid-turn prototype and engineering build requirements.
  • Solicit and analyze supplier quotations, manufacturing capabilities, and lead times.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and commercial terms for prototype and development-related purchases.
  • Partner with Supplier Quality and Engineering teams to evaluate supplier performance and technical capabilities.
Sourcing & Procurement
  • Create and manage purchase orders for prototype and engineering-related materials.
  • Coordinate deliveries and expedite critical orders to support project timelines.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to cost, quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation within ERP and procurement systems.
  • Support cost estimation and sourcing recommendations during product design and development phases.
  • Facilitate the successful transition of sourced components from development into production procurement processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, Operations, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Participate in project reviews and NPI meetings to align sourcing activities with development schedules.
  • Provide market intelligence and sourcing expertise related to materials, manufacturing processes, and supplier capabilities.
  • Escalate material shortages, supply risks, and supplier performance concerns as needed.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 10+ years of procurement, sourcing, purchasing, or supply chain experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting engineering, prototype, and/or new product development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in supplier negotiations and supplier relationship management.
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
  • Experience sourcing custom fabricated, machined, or engineered components.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain best practices.
  • Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPM, or APICS are a plus.

For this U.S. based position, the expected pay range is USD 101,600 - USD 152,400 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short-term incentives. The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our pay ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the pay range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
