Senior Application Engineer
Schneider Electric USA, Inc. seeks a Senior Application Engineer in Houston, TX.
Job Description: Architect and implement advanced microgrid control systems integrating solar PV, BESS, diesel gensets, and grid-tied/islanded modes using Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure Microgrid Operation and Advisor. Develop detailed functional specifications, HMI designs, communication architectures, and comprehensive I/O lists (hardware and software) for microgrid projects. Design and configure protection and control systems-including relays, IEDs, PLCs, and HMIs-based on short circuit and arc flash studies, while reviewing schematics for automation and electrical connectivity. Integrate intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) and DERs into automation architectures using protocols such as IEC61850, DNP 3.0, Modbus TCP/RTU, PRP, HSR, and RSTP, ensuring robust communication and system reliability. Lead site audits, factory acceptance tests, and commissioning efforts across commercial, industrial, utility, and renewable energy sectors, ensuring high-performance delivery and customer satisfaction. Mentor teams on Schneider Electric's Power Automation System technologies and DER orchestration strategies, fostering technical growth and knowledge transfer. Collaborate with commercial, line of business, and customer teams to align technical execution with business objectives and stakeholder expectations. Drive innovation in microgrid optimization strategies including peak shaving, load shifting, and demand response through advanced control logic and real-time energy management. 45% travel required (5% international, 40% domestic) to factories, labs, and customer sites for training, assessment, troubleshooting and maintenance.

Requirements: Position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering or a related field, and progressive post-bachelor's experience (5 years with bachelor's, or 3 years with master's) in microgrid engineering, or related occupation, including at least some experience in the following skills: Validating low-voltage switchboard designs and breaker selections for commercial Microgrid systems; Microgrid automation, DER integration, and power system engineering; Creating network communication diagrams for PV systems, BESS systems, generator control systems, and SCADA systems; Configuring programmable logic controllers (PLCs), HMI, protection relays, and other IEDs for process improvements; Conducting site audits of electrical and generator control systems; Collaborating with inverter-based power sources (solar and battery energy storage inverters); and Developing I/O lists for electrical and control systems, incorporating PLCs, protection systems, and switchgears.
