Security Technician

The Security Technician is responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining security systems. This includes access control systems, CCTV/video surveillance, intrusion alarms, fire alarms, networking components related to security systems, and other low-voltage equipment. The role requires strong technical skills, customer service, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

Installation & Configuration

  • Install and program security systems including CCTV cameras, NVR/DVR systems, access control hardware, intrusion alarms, and related software.
  • Run, label, and terminate low-voltage cabling (CAT5/6, coaxial, fiber, etc.).
  • Mount and align security devices such as cameras, sensors, card readers, and control panels.
  • Configure network settings, IP addressing, and integrations with customer systems.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Perform system diagnostics and repairs on malfunctioning equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and preventive inspections on security systems.
  • Identify and resolve connectivity issues, power failures, and hardware malfunctions.
  • Test systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards.

Customer Service & Documentation
  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding system operation, maintenance needs, and service issues.
  • Provide on-site training to end users when required.
  • Document installations, service calls, and system configurations using company software.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment, tools, and materials.

Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Ensure installations meet relevant building codes and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain clean, professional job sites and adhere to project schedules.

What qualifications will make you successful?
  • 2+ years of experience with access control, video surveillance, security systems, and BMS Controls
  • Strong knowledge of security equipment operation and maintenance
  • Have a high focus on customer service and satisfaction
