Product Engineer
What the Role Entails
In a high-agility and fast-paced environment, decisions, tools, and engineering improvements are expected to be implemented and deployed within months of learning. In this challenging setting, you will be expected to independently design, develop, detail, and release mechanical parts, assemblies, junctions, connections, and equipment used within modular data center solutions across North American Manufacturing.
You will be responsible for strengthening design ownership, drawing integrity, manufacturability, and engineering definition by creating and maintaining 3D models and technical drawings utilizing DfMA principles and engineering standards.
You will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and work closely with the Mechanical, Electrical, Design, Manufacturing, and Product Data Engineering teams to review, refine, and release designs for project-specific applications.
Unlike the co-op position, this role is expected to independently take designs from an identified engineering requirement through modeling, detailing, design review, engineering release, and manufacturing support, escalating complex technical decisions when necessary.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means project-specific and proprietary designs are fully defined, manufacturable, traceable, and documented to a level where they can be consistently produced by our internal manufacturing plants or outsourced to qualified suppliers and fabrication shops.
A successful Product Engineer becomes a reliable technical owner of the designs assigned to them, reducing ambiguity between Engineering and Manufacturing while improving the completeness, repeatability, and quality of engineering deliverables.
Responsibilities Include
- Own assigned mechanical designs from requirement through engineering release, including parts, assemblies, junctions, and project-specific applications.
- Create production-ready 3D models and technical drawings in Creo with complete manufacturing and assembly definition.
- Apply DFM principles and engineering standards to improve manufacturability, assembly, safety, and design repeatability.
- Own CAD-to-PDM readiness, ensuring models, drawings, metadata, and product structures are accurate and properly controlled.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing to conduct design reviews, resolve production issues, and continuously improve designs.
Minimum Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.
- Experience with 3D parametric CAD and technical drawings, preferably Creo Parametric.
- Understanding of DFM, manufacturing processes, GD&T, and engineering drawing principles.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and process orientation, with the ability to independently own engineering assignments.
- Strong cross-functional communication and continuous-improvement mindset, with a willingness to learn and implement new tools and workflows.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Experience using Creo Parametric
- Experience working within a PDM or PLM environment
- Previous internship, co-op, or full-time mechanical/product engineering experience
- Experience designing fabricated sheet metal, structural, welded, or machined components
- Experience applying DFM principles in a production environment
- Experience supporting manufacturing or resolving production-related engineering issues
- Experience in the modular construction, electrical infrastructure, or data center industry
