Product Engineer

The Product Engineer is responsible for supporting new product development and sustaining activities for products manufactured at the Columbia, Missouri plant. This role applies technical expertise to define, analyze, validate, and document the manufacturing environment, current technologies, and engineering processes. The Technical Antenna will also lead or support investigations and the resolution of performance issues related to industrial molded‑case circuit breakers.

What will you do:

Support Product Optimization and Evolution

  • Lead or contribute to the execution of change notices according to established timelines.
  • Analyze the impact of proposed changes on end‑to‑end manufacturing processes.
  • Recommend improvements to the Board of Change.
  • Prepare and submit requests related to product adaptation, quality, productivity, obsolescence, and withdrawal.
  • Collaborate closely with Design Engineering and Continuous Engineering on all product changes.

Strengthen Product and Process Knowledge; Support Technical Problem Solving

  • Train plant personnel on product functionality and customer application requirements.
  • Conduct product and process analyses, including surveillance testing and reviews of technical returns, defective products, and manufacturing performance data.
  • Contribute to structured root‑cause investigations and problem‑solving activities.
  • Participate in product reviews in partnership with the Line of Business.
  • Interact directly with customers to address technical inquiries and support a positive customer experience.

Ensure Product Performance, Compliance, and Robustness

  • Maintain consistency and accuracy of product definitions within the manufacturing database.
  • Contribute to risk assessments through process failure mode and effects analysis, product quality control systems, and critical control plans.
  • Support supply chain robustness initiatives and part qualification activities.
  • Manage the introduction of new product offers transferred from product creation or industrial transfer teams.
  • Support Short Interval Management by demonstrating strong leadership, communication, and the ability to work collaboratively in resolving issues and driving improvements.
  • Partner extensively with quality engineers, manufacturing personnel, and corporate engineering teams.


What will make you successful:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required.
  • Experience in manufacturing quality, manufacturing engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency with structured problem‑solving methodologies, including Eight Disciplines problem solving, root‑cause analysis tools such as the Five Whys and cause‑and‑effect diagrams; Six Sigma knowledge or certification is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical abilities with demonstrated experience in data interpretation, issue resolution, and project management.
  • Excellent leadership skills and strong communication abilities, both verbal and written, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including manufacturing teams and customers, with strong follow‑through and execution skills.
  • Quick learner with the ability to support multiple roles, including responsibilities within the Missouri plant and corporate initiatives related to customer satisfaction and product quality.
