Offer Technical Leader - Electromechanical / Electrotechnology Design Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer for our Cedar Rapids, Iowa Design Center to provide technical leadership for the maintenance and optimization (Cost & Quality improvements) of multiple miniature circuit breaker product lines.

For this U.S. based position, the expected compensation range is $170,000 - $187,000 per year, which includes base pay and short-term incentive.

The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Job Description

  1. Apply methodical problem-solving techniques (e.g. 5 Whys, 8D) and tools (e.g. Fishbone Diagram / Design of experiments) to solve problems.
  2. Interpret test results and synthesize data into technical reports to effectively convey summary and conclusions to audience (e.g. peers, management, etc...)
  3. Responsible for Engineering Analysis activities, including Thermal, Electromagnetic, Dynamical and Structural, to insure the adequate performance, quality, and reliability of the product, as well as compliance to ratings, product specifications and standard requirements (UL, CSA,NOM, CCC, IEC and ANSI).
  4. Creation and update of Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) documents to reflect product design changes.
  5. Lead and execute Circuit Breaker projects. Coordinates project scheduling, planning and safety reviews.
  6. Design offers from technical specifications to meet customer values expectations and quality goals with respect to supply chains constraints.
  • Responsible for the validation of FAIRs and Pilot Run reviews
  • Support Global Supply Change Manufacturing Plants in North America. Audit the manufacturing facilities of assigned product family to help ensure product compliance to applicable regulatory standards (e.g. UL)
  • Creates, modifies & validates bills of materials and CAD drawings of parts and sub-assemblies in accordance with technical specifications, customer expectations and supply chain constraints.
  • Supports the execution of verification & validation test plans in laboratories and the analysis of results & shares reports to internal and external customers (with possible support).
  • Support Customer returns analysis.
  • Contribute to development of user documentation such as instruction bulletins, safety labels, and product markings.

What skills and capabilities will make you successful?
  • BS or equivalent expertise in electromechanical design in electrical distribution products. Masters in science is a plus.
  • Must have minimum 8 years of relevant experience in electromechanical mass production industries.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt is a plus.
  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Basic 3D CAD Modeling.
  • Experience in Product Testing and Evaluation Methods (UL/ CSA/NOM/ IEC/ CCC/ ANSI) desirable.
  • Circuit Breaker design experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of CAE (Ex, Structural, Thermal, Kinematics, etc.) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of first principles of Physics and Engineering Practice.
  • Familiar with metal stamping, thermoset and thermoplastic molding processes.
  • Familiar with Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly techniques.
  • Training or experience in some of the following areas:
  • Finite element analysis
  • Strength of materials
  • Dynamic / kinematic analysis (multi-bar and latching systems)
  • Thermal and magnetic simulation
  • Use of statistical techniques for analyzing empirical data
  • Heat Transfer
  • Codes & Standards

  • Able to work efficiently under the pressure of tight deadlines on high visibility assignments.
  • 5-10% travel to manufacturing facilities and/or customer sites.
  • Willing to occasionally work non-standard hours to address critical business issues or to accommodate team members in other time zones.
