IOT Architect - Position Overview

Schneider Electric's Digital Buildings division is seeking an experienced IoT Architect to join our CTO Research team. This role will drive the architectural vision and technical strategy for next-generation IoT solutions in the smart buildings ecosystem. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise across the complete IoT stack with specialized domain knowledge in building automation systems, sensors, and environmental controls.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Innovation

  • Drive proof-of-concept development for emerging IoT technologies in building automation
  • Research and evaluate new sensor technologies, edge computing solutions, and AI/ML applications
  • Collaborate with external partners, universities, and technology vendors on innovation projects
  • Publish technical papers and represent Schneider Electric at industry conferences

Technical Architecture & Leadership
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineering teams and research scientists
  • Establish connectivity strategies across diverse protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LoRaWAN, ZigBee, WiFi, cellular, etc..)
  • Establish best practices for IoT security, device management, and data governance
  • Review technical designs from development teams


Required Qualifications

Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • 15+ years of professional experience in IoT system architecture and implementation
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale IoT solutions from concept to production

Technical Expertise

  • Full-Stack IoT Knowledge : Deep understanding of IoT ecosystem from hardware sensors, firmware, to cloud platforms
  • Building Domain Expertise : Extensive experience with HVAC systems, building sensors, thermostats, and environmental controls
  • Connectivity Protocols : Proficiency in building automation protocols (BACnet, Modbus, KNX, etc..), IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP, etc..) and wireless protocols (ZigBee, LoRaWAN, Thread, etc..)
  • Cloud Platforms : Experience with major cloud providers (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Edge Computing : Knowledge of edge analytics, fog computing, and distributed processing architectures
  • Security : Understanding of IoT security frameworks, device authentication, and data encryption

  • Building Management Systems (BMS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS)
  • Sensor technologies for temperature, humidity, occupancy, air quality, and energy monitoring
  • Smart thermostat design and integration with building control systems

  • Systems thinking and architectural design capabilities
  • Strong programming skills (C/C++, C#, Python, Java, etc..)
  • Data modeling and database design expertise
  • API design and microservices architecture
  • Containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Experience leading technical teams and driving consensus on architectural decisions
  • Strong presentation skills for executive and customer audiences

  • Ability to balance innovation with practical business requirements
  • Experience in research environments and technology commercialization
