As a PV Inverter Integration & Modbus Mapping Intern, you will play a key role in strengthening the interoperability between photovoltaic (PV) inverters and microgrid control systems. You will focus on communication integration, Modbus data mapping, and commissioning support, helping ensure reliable monitoring and control of third‑party inverter equipment within microgrid solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of the microgrid solution architecture and its integration requirements
  • Analyze commonly deployed PV inverters in the Belgian market, with a focus on their communication protocols and interfaces
  • Identify, evaluate, and select key Modbus registers relevant for monitoring, control, and commissioning activities
  • Create structured and reusable documentation mapping high‑value Modbus data points to concrete engineering and operational use cases
  • Simplify access to critical inverter information to support efficient commissioning, diagnostics, and troubleshooting
  • Design and implement custom communication drivers or interfaces to connect PV inverters with the microgrid control system
  • Test and validate interoperability between the microgrid controller and third‑party inverter equipment
  • Ensure data reliability, consistency, and performance across integrated systems
  • Collaborate closely with application, control, and integration engineering teams to improve integration standards and documentation quality


Learning objectives
  • Gain hands-on experience with PV inverter integration and industrial communication protocols (Modbus)
  • Develop a strong understanding of microgrid commissioning and interoperability challenges
  • Build skills in structured technical documentation and data mapping
  • Learn how to interface third‑party equipment with complex energy management systems
Profile
  • Engineering student (Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Automation, Embedded Systems, or similar)
  • Interest in renewable energy, PV systems, microgrids, and industrial communications
  • Basic knowledge of Modbus or willingness to learn quickly
  • Structured, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working with technical documentation
  • Proactive mindset and ability to collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams
