Role Title: Industrial Engineer Apprentice

Location: Scarborough (On-Site)

Apprentice Level: UK Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship Programme

Salary: £23,000

Role Mission:

As an Industrial Engineer Apprentice, you will develop a strong understanding of industrial processes, optimization techniques, and project management principles. By collaborating with teams and focusing on efficiency, you will help design and implement innovative, sustainable solutions that enhance productivity, quality, and safety within our plant. Through hands-on experience, continuous learning, and a passion for improvement, you will play a key role in maintaining the design intent and integrity of products assembled on site, making a positive impact on our business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as an expert in multiple areas of production and manufacturing processes within the Schneider Performance System (SPS), including process design, ergonomics, capacity planning, simulation tools, investment analysis, cost evaluation, and performance optimization. Strongly contribute to and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement process and workstation adaptations for existing products to improve industrial performance across manual processes, automated systems, and PLC (Programmable Logic Control), utilizing SPS techniques and tools.
  • Participate in defining specifications and preparing quotations for new line architectures and industrial scenarios to meet safety, quality, lead time, and productivity requirements.
  • Ensure the deployment of SPS principles and apply Lean and Six Sigma tools.
  • Take part in SIM2 meetings for assigned sectors and implement actions to quickly remove barriers.
  • Manage capacity versus workload balance using dedicated tools ( iQ simulation, CAMA, CORIM, Bridge) for both internal and external lines.
  • Optimize lead times and ensure line capacity, develop operator work instructions for training, and contribute to the design of new products to ensure producibility and feasibility.
  • Assess the feasibility and profitability of investments aligned with operational needs.
  • Qualify equipment and processes both within the plant and at supplier locations.
  • Lead the ramp-up of new production lines.

Training:

Training Provider: Aston University

During your apprenticeship, you will receive two different types of training.

'On-the-job' training will be delivered by Schneider Electric, as your employer. You'll receive training and supervision to help you perform the job you've been hired to do. This will include skills and knowledge that fall outside of the apprenticeship but are needed for the job role. As well as providing 'on-the-job' training, it is important that we support you in additional ways to ensure your success.

'Off-the-job' training is delivered by one of our carefully selected Training Providers during your normal working hours. You will spend at least 20% (average 6 hours per week) of your working hours completing 'off-the-job' training. This is protected time and is a requirement for apprenticeship delivery. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills, and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard so you can achieve occupational competence.

Work Pattern

37.5 hours per week to be worked from Monday to Friday.

Exact start and finish times are to be agreed upon with Line Manager. Some of these hours will be allocated to off-the-job training as part of your Apprenticeship Programme .

Monday to Thursday: 07:55 to 16:25

Friday 07:55 to 13:25

Skills and Attributes

Essential
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately.
  • The ability to work as a team member and possess good interpersonal, communication, and literacy skills.
  • To work with efficiency, accuracy, and to be able to meet deadlines.
  • High level of flexibility and dependability
  • Highly motivated, a desire to learn, and a good record of attendance

Desirable
  • To be PC literate and familiar with Microsoft Office or equivalent software
  • Aptitude for practical science or engineering skill

Education

5 GCSE's (or Level 2 equivalent) including Maths , English, and a STEM related subject Grade C/4 or above plus 3 A Levels at CCC or above including a Mathematics-based subject and STEM related subject or equivalent BTECS .

Previous Experience Required

No pre-requisite experience required but a demonstrable interest in engineering through school or hobby interests.
