HVAC Sensor Architect
We are currently seeking a R&D Sensor Architect to join our R&D team based in our Bangalore, India location.
The Sensor Architect will be the technical leader responsible for evaluating, selecting, and integrating sensor technologies into our intelligent devices. This role bridges hardware design, vendor engagement, and system integration, ensuring our products-ranging from Living Space Sensors to Gas Platforms-are equipped with cutting-edge, reliable, and scalable sensor solutions
The architect will work closely with an agile development global teams, particularly in Montreal and Bangalore, and act as the primary point of contact for sensor-related decisions and innovations.

Responsibilities
- Sensor Strategy & Architecture
- Define and develop sensor architecture for HVAC and BMS applications.
- Evaluate and select sensor technologies based on performance, reliability, cost, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead sensor integration into embedded systems and cloud-connected platforms.
- Technology Development:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and validate sensor solutions for:
- Indoor air quality (IAQ) - VOCs, CO, PM2.5/PM10, Temperature and humidity.
- Differential pressure - airflow and duct pressure monitoring
- Gas sensing - methane, propane, carbon monoxide
- Refrigerant leak detection - R32, R410A, etc.
- Lead the scouting and evaluation of new sensor technologies and vendors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and validate sensor solutions for:
- System design and Integration
- Optimize sensor placement and calibration strategies for real-world environments.
- Design of sensor interface and signal conditioning circuits
- Define sensor integration strategies for analog outputs (4-20 mA, 0-10 V), Wired protocols like BACnet MSTP/ Modbus and wireless protocols like Zigbee, LoRA and BLE
- Collaborate with firmware and hardware teams to ensure seamless integration.
- Compliance & Standards:
- En sure sensor systems meet industry standards (ASHRAE, ISO, UL, CE).
- Stay updated on environmental regulations and refrigerant safety standards.
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work with product managers, hardware engineers, and software teams to align sensor capabilities with product requirements.
- Coordinate with Bangalore and Montreal teams to ensure consistent architecture and implementation.
- Innovation & Future-readiness
- Explore and propose wireless sensor technologies (e.g., Zigbee, Wirepas) for future product lines.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging sensor platforms.
- Vendor & Partner Engagement
- Act as the technical liaison with sensor vendors and technology partners.
- Lead technical discussions, evaluations, and onboarding of new sensor suppliers.
Core Required Skills
- Strong understanding of analog sensor technologies and signal conditioning.
- P rior experience in working with environmental sensors like Temperature, Humidity, CO2, VOC, NO, Refrigeration gas sensing, Particulate matter, and Audio/Video sensing is preferable.
- Hands-on experience with sensor calibration and environmental testing.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (RS-485, BACnet MSTP, Modbus).
- Proficiency in sensor system architecture and integration.
- Familiarity with embedded systems and microcontroller interfaces.
- Ability to write and interpret technical specifications and schematics.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in agile development environments.
- A professional, proactive attitude with good interpersonal skills

Additional Nice to Have Skills
- Experience with wireless protocols: Zigbee, BLE, Thread, 802.15.4, etc...
- Familiar with Secure Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Good understanding of product development life cycle (Agile methodology, Integration testing etc)
- Revision control (Git and Github)
- Knowledge of wireless sensor technologies (Zigbee, Wirepas, BLE).
- Experience with environmental sensors (temperature, humidity, gas, pressure).
- Familiarity with sensor calibration and testing methodologies.
- Exposure to IoT platforms and cloud-connected sensor systems.
- Understanding of EMC/EMI considerations in sensor design.
- Experience with simulation tools for sensor modeling.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related field.
- 12+ years of experience in sensor design, integration, or architecture roles.
- Strong knowledge of sensor physics, signal processing, and embedded systems.
- Proven track record of working with cross-functional and international teams.
- Experience in vendor evaluation and technology scouting.
