Export Jurisdiction & Classification Specialist

Schneider Electric has a hybrid opportunity for an Export Jurisdiction & Classification Specialist to be based in one of the following hub offices: Monterrey , Mexico; Nashville, TN or Raleigh, NC.

The Export Jurisdiction & Classification Specialist supports the company's global export control program by determining and maintaining accurate regulatory jurisdiction and export classifications for products, software, and technology across applicable international regulatory regimes.

This role plays a critical part in enabling compliant global business operations by ensuring that classification determinations are accurate, well‑documented, and defensible. Working closely with engineering, product management, and regional compliance teams, the Specialist helps integrate export control requirements into product development and lifecycle processes.

Accurate jurisdiction and classification determinations serve as the regulatory foundation for downstream export control activities, including sanctions screening, licensing assessments, technology transfer controls, and export transaction reviews.
Key Responsibilities
Export Classification & Jurisdiction Determinations

  • Determine export control jurisdiction and classification for products, software, and technology under applicable regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • Evaluate product technical characteristics against the Commerce Control List (CCL) and associated regulatory criteria.
  • Conduct classification assessments for encryption functionality under Category 5, Part 2, as applicable.
  • Determine export classifications under international control regimes, including the EU Dual‑Use Regulation (EU) 2021/821.
  • Prepare, document, and maintain clear classification rationales supporting regulatory determinations.

  • Partner with engineering, product management, and R&D teams to obtain technical information required for classification decisions.
  • Support the integration of export control considerations into product development and lifecycle processes.
  • Provide classification guidance to regional export compliance teams supporting global operations.
Classification Data Management
  • Maintain classification records and supporting documentation in company systems of record, such as ERP, PLM, and trade compliance platforms.
  • Ensure classifications remain current as products evolve or as regulatory requirements change.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve classification data quality, consistency, and governance across the organization.
Compliance Program Support
  • Assist with monitoring export control regulatory changes that may impact product classifications.
  • Support internal training and awareness initiatives related to jurisdiction and classification requirements.
  • Participate in global compliance initiatives aimed at strengthening export control processes and controls.


Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, international business, or a related discipline.
Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in export classification and jurisdiction determination.
  • Proven experience interpreting and applying export control regulations to technical products.
  • Background in export controls and trade compliance.
Key Skills
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate technical product characteristics.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply them accurately.
  • Effective collaboration with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation discipline and attention to detail.
  • Clear and effective communication of complex regulatory topics to non‑compliance audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience classifying industrial automation, energy management, and electrical distribution products, including software and embedded technologies.
  • Familiarity with encryption classification under Category 5, Part 2.
  • Experience with EU dual‑use export control regulations.
  • Experience using trade compliance systems such as SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) or similar platforms.
