Customs & Trade Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Import/Export Customs Manager will oversee trade operations for Schneider Electric's Tlaxcala manufacturing plants. This role manages local import/export activities and serves as a dotted-line manager for the Virtual Operations team. It requires close collaboration with the Global Classification COE, local plant management, and the Regional Customs Compliance team to ensure adherence to Mexican customs regulations and global trade standards. Reports directly to the Director of North American Trade Operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage import/export operations, including pedimento processing , ensuring compliance with Mexican customs laws, IMMEX program requirements, and Schneider Electric global trade policies.

  • Oversee Carta Porte process and border inventory management for accurate documentation and traceability.
  • Implement and maintain Annex 24 and Annex 30 controls within customs inventory systems for temporary imports, consumption reporting, scrap ( mermas ), and physical vs. system reconciliations.
  • Manage ERP backflush processes (SAP, Oracle, or similar) to ensure accurate material deductions based on production orders and BOMs.
  • Ensure proper registration, tracking, and reconciliation of fixed assets under Annex 24 requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and Global Classification COE to resolve HTS discrepancies and maintain accurate tariff classification, supporting trade agreement compliance (USMCA, etc.).
  • Monitor VAT compliance and INEGI reporting , ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Drive cost optimization and risk mitigation strategies , including proactive audits and reviews of customs processes.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to customs teams, fostering collaboration across logistics , finance, and production teams, and maintaining effective communication with customs authorities and brokers.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in customs and trade compliance within Mexico.
  • Strong knowledge of IMMEX program, VAT compliance, and import/export regulations.
  • Proven leadership experience.
  • Excellent English proficiency (written and spoken) for global collaboration.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment and travel weekly to Tlaxcala plants.


Preferred Skills
  • Experience with SAP Global Trade Services or similar trade compliance systems.
  • Familiarity with Free Trade Agreements (USMCA, etc.) and HTS Classification.
