Schneider Electric is seeking a Construction Estimator (ECCP). The estimator is responsible for supporting the project team by participating in multiple aspects of the bid/estimating process, including but not limited to review of plans and specifications, soliciting and negotiating pricing with subcontractors and or suppliers, quantity take-off and pricing. The role is highly collaborative and will work closely with internal teams, external suppliers, owners, architects, and engineers. The Estimator must be a flexible and adaptable team player, as well as have strong communication and customer service skills.
What will you do:
- Prepare clear and concise Class 2 and Class 3 cost estimates by utilizing:
- Internal Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing Engineering Scope
- Internal and external scope developed for all building construction trades
- Available site descriptions or survey depending upon estimate level
- Subcontractor cost data obtained for a specific project's location
- A defined estimating method with proprietary tools that, at its core, employs an engineered approach to cost development

- Be able to provide itemized cost and documented assumptions and risks for evaluating both internal estimates and eventual subcontractor bid
- Provide constructability guidance to project participants
- Provide procurement and tender support during development and construction
- Develop the following levels of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Building Construction estimates:
- Rough Order of Magnitude/Preliminary/Request for Proposal Estimates: an opinion of potential cost of an Energy Conservation Measure or project with only minimal scope
- Conceptual Estimate: an estimate based on limited scope used to consider Energy Conservation Measure economic / technical feasibility
- Estimate Grade Design (EGD): A professional estimate that is based on enough engineered scope and will be used to book a project
- Construction level: a "check" estimate based on a full set of plans and specifications that have been issued to contractors for bidding.
- Provide preliminary/conceptual estimates for extensive work scope of all trades
- Advise Project teams of need for actual subcontractor quotes for these trades and other specialty work to complete the Estimate Grade Design estimate
- Estimate Grade Design Estimate Specific tasks
- Perform a site survey
- Obtain vendor and subcontractor budget quotes and verify proposed scopes
- If possible, determine phasing and constructability with the project team and submit estimates for review
- Interact with Operations, Engineering and Sales groups throughout estimating process
- Prioritize estimates to meet sales schedule through use of documentation as well as direct communication
- Participate in various project meetings with these groups throughout development, including hand-off and design review.

- Builds an understanding of statistical cost models
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related major or 5+ years of experience estimating HVAC/Electrical systems. A knowledge of building electrical systems as well as the variety of building trades is also preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Outlook etc. A basic knowledge of current estimating or engineering technology and tools is preferred but not immediately required.
- Experience with AI and advanced applications a plus
- Experience in Design/Build or Job Order Contracting a plus
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications required
- Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
- General knowledge of construction principles and processes, as well as negotiated/hard bids and GMP processes preferred.
- Maintain current, working knowledge of applicable codes and requirements relating to general building construction and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scopes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Estimator will be required to make site visits to perform surveys pertaining to the scope of work being developed. The main purpose will be to assess the constructability of the work being proposed through careful examination of site conditions. As such, this will mean climbing stationary ladders to rooftops, walking through mechanical and electrical equipment rooms, standing on ladders or supports to gain access to ceiling plenums or wall chases, and walking the exterior property for potential outdoor installations. Moving over rough or uneven surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities, although not necessarily extreme, can be expected.
Typically, any travel time required will involve transporting laptops, field measuring equipment, and luggage. There will be those projects where considerable driving will be needed; possibly in addition to air travel.

While performing the primary functions of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to a general office environment. During periods of project site visits, the employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions as well as mechanical equipment rooms, which could consist of confined spaces and loud noises. Employees may work in different environments while on various job sites. This job requires work to be primarily performed at a remote office, with some work also on project sites. Position may require up to 50% travel to project sites. Travel will occur using an automobile or by airplane to destinations.
