The Buyer - Direct Procurement at Schneider Electric is responsible for managing sourcing and supplier performance for components used in energy management and automation solutions. The role supports Schneider's "Local for Local" strategy, driving competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability of the supply base.
The Buyer will work closely with global category teams, engineering, quality, and manufacturing to ensure cost-efficient, reliable, and sustainable sourcing, while enabling localization and supporting Schneider Electric's operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Sourcing Execution & Category Alignment
- Execute sourcing strategies aligned with Schneider Electric's Global Category Management framework.
- Lead RFQs, supplier selection, and commercial negotiations in line with defined commodity strategies.
- Manage sourcing of:
- Electrical enclosures and panels
- Sheet metal and fabricated parts
- Plastics and injection-molded components
- Electromechanical assemblies and hardware
Ensure compliance with Schneider Electric technical, quality, and regulatory standards
- Supplier Development & Performance Management
- Identify, qualify, and onboard suppliers aligned with Schneider Electric standards and Code of Conduct.
- Assess supplier capabilities across:
- Manufacturing processes
- Quality systems
- Capacity and scalability
- Monitor and drive supplier KPIs:
- On-Time Delivery (OTD)
- Supplier Quality (PPM, defect rate)
- Lead time performance
- Cost productivity
- Conduct supplier business reviews and drive corrective action plans.
- Cost Competitiveness & Productivity
- Deliver annual productivity and cost reduction targets in line with Schneider Electric procurement goals.
- Perform should-cost analysis and benchmarking.
- Drive Value Engineering / Value Analysis (VE/VA) initiatives with engineering and suppliers:

- Design-to-cost improvements
- Material optimization
- Process efficiency enhancements
- Procurement Operations & Digital Tools
- Manage purchase orders, contracts, and supplier data in SAP and Schneider Electric digital procurement systems.
- Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and audit requirements.
- Track order execution, resolve supply issues, and ensure material availability.
- Maintain high data accuracy and reporting standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with:
- Global Category Managers
- Engineering (design and industrialization)
- Quality (supplier qualification and audits)
- Planning & Logistics
- Manufacturing teams
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and industrialization projects.
- Participate in:
- PPAP & APQP processes
- First Article Inspection (FAI)
- Supplier corrective action.
- Localization & "Local for Local" Strategy
- Support Schneider Electric's regionalization and localization roadmap.
- Develop local supplier ecosystems to improve:
- Lead times
- Supply continuity
- Cost efficiency
- Contribute to risk mitigation through dual sourcing and local capacity development.
- Sustainability & Responsible Sourcing
- Drive Schneider Electric's sustainable procurement commitments, including:
- Decarbonization of supply chain
- Ethical sourcing compliance
- Supplier sustainability assessments
- Promote environmentally responsible materials and processes.
- Ensure alignment with Schneider Electric's CSR and ESG targets.
- Risk & Resilience Management
- Identify supply chain risks (geopolitical, operational, financial).
- Implement mitigation plans, including alternate sourcing and buffer strategies.
- Ensure business continuity for critical components.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
- MBA in Supply Chain/Operations is an advantage.
Experience
- 5-10 years of experience in direct procurement within industrial, electrical, or energy management sectors.
Experience working in a multinational or matrix organization preferred.
