Automation Engineer II

Join our technical delivery team as an Automation Engineer II. As an Automation Engineer you will be responsible for the implementation of quality building automation control practices while providing engineering/technical oversight for construction site projects for a retrofit/energy performance contracting team. You will work closely with clients, project managers, and other engineering teams to support the implementation of customized solutions that optimize building performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort.

What will you do?

  • Work as an individual or part of a team for delivery on schedule and project requirements.
  • Implement hardware and software designs in compliance with engineering principles, company standards and contract requirements during installation of project
  • Oversight of electrical installation subcontractor for compliance to design, schedule, and implementation methods
    • When not viable to utilize subcontractor; Self-Perform low voltage electrical service and installation (Panel installation, controller mounting and wiring, communication wire pulling
  • Support or lead efforts in validation, commissioning and project implementation of Building Automation System with Schneider Electric Products or others (@ Site)
  • Test/Validate the hardware/software for correct operation as they apply to HVAC control, lighting, water, etc.
  • Testing and ensure quality installation of graphical interface for client
  • Analyze Building Automation Systems and recommend changes to improve functionality and/or energy efficiency or to accomplish Energy Conservation Measures
  • Mark-Up building automation and integrated system drawings, specifications, and reports by use of digital means (typically Microsoft Suite of products - Visio, Excel, Word, etc.) for record keeping
  • Material handling of Building Automation System products for implementation
  • Ensure conformance to industry design standards and local codes
  • Provide input to other engineers during initial and subsequent installation phases.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives as assigned to drive continuous improvement
  • Deliver solutions with first-time quality while maintaining high levels of internal and external client satisfaction
  • Continually enforce safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear, and conditions.
  • Lead efforts as the technical resource for Building Automation System with Construction team
  • Displays team effort and dedication to client by maintaining flexibility to work as the business requires

What qualifications will make you successful:
  • 5+ years of equivalent work experience preferred
    • Experience with low voltage electrical installation for Building Automation Systems or equivalent
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with varying demands and requirements ranging from small projects to large projects, self-performed or 3 rd party execution, and complexity. Ability to understand when additional expertise is required and seek out support.
  • Understand and lead the knowledge share of Automation Systems and Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning Systems (HVAC).
  • This role requires a strong technical competency, experience in construction and automation management best practices, ability to demonstrate experience and independent responsibility with high confidence in the automation field.
  • Natural problem solver and active learner required
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and project management/organization skills required
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards: ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA, UL
  • Familiarity with building automation protocols and standards, such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks
  • Understanding of HVAC, electrical systems and control systems required
    • Schneider Electric Building Automation System platforms (Vista, Continuum, I/Net, StruxureWare, EcoStruxure, and/or Invensys) highly preferred.
    • Working experience with other building automation vendors (Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Allerton, Automated Logic, etc.) highly preferred.
  • Ability to understand HVAC drawings, electrical drawings, scope of work documents and schematics required
  • IT knowledge and interworking of control systems is highly preferred (Ex. IP functionality, Wi-Fi, Routers, Switches, and equipment topology)
  • Valid driver's license required with no major or frequent traffic violations
  • Proficient in Procore and Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to, Word, Excel, TEAMs, and MS Project required
  • Strong basic math skills required
  • Ability to thoroughly understand and follow plans and specifications in the construction of a project required
  • Passionate about customer service and team success required
  • Expert ability to adjust to changes, adapt and overcome challenges as required
  • High travel percentage required. Travel could be via car or plane.

This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders. Moving over rough or uneven surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy to light items. Transporting of items such as a ladder, tools, laptop computer and luggage; driving an automobile, etc.

While performing the primary functions of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to a general office environment and construction site environment. During periods of project site visits, the employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions, roof tops, attics, as well as mechanical and electrical equipment rooms which could consist of confined spaces and loud noises. Employee may work in different environments while on various job sites.

Ability to travel full time to project sites required. Automation work occurs in various locations across the Southeastern United States, and on occasion nationally. Normal work schedule is Mon-Fri with travel to the project on Mondays and travel home on Friday mornings but can change depending on project requirements. Special project circumstances may occasionally require additional working hours on weekends; however, this is typically scheduled in advance.

For this U.S. based position, the expected pay range is USD 86,400 - USD 129,600 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short-term incentives. The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our pay ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the pay range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
