What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic individual to join our Facilities Management team as a Facilities Systems Engineer (job title: Facilities Electrical Engineer). This role involves a variety of senior-level responsibilities in a dynamic National Laboratory environment. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, service-oriented, and skilled in problem-solving across diverse situations.
On any given day you may be called on to:
- Lead initiatives in project development, campus planning, and infrastructure investment while coordinating project teams across various functions and disciplines.
- Assess building and site infrastructure issues, propose solutions, and create project plans that ensure feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to perform engineering calculations, create construction drawings, and develop specifications that meet customer needs and comply with relevant codes and regulations.
- Develop project studies, long-term capital plans, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Oversee construction projects to ensure compliance with design requirements, codes, and site standards, providing technical direction for building and utility systems.
- Enhance preventive maintenance procedures, conduct asset management surveys, and serve as the subject matter expert for systems, offering technical guidance to engineering, operations, and project execution teams.
- Plan for maintenance by modeling the system, conducting condition assessments, analyzing data, balancing loads, and ensuring reliability by identifying upgrade and lifecycle replacement options.
- Write detailed power outage procedures for project and maintenance activities.
- This role requires a critical thinking approach for complex engineering decisions that may have an institutional impact.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in Livermore, CA.

Salary Range:
$121,900 - $237,800
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline with at least eight years of relevant experience in facilities planning, design, construction, execution, or operations.
- Experience leading teams.
- Experience in designing and planning building systems or modifying existing facilities.
- Experience with project management in facilities design and/or construction.
- Knowledge of California or international building codes.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering.
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to coordinate cross-disciplinary teams.
- Strong project management skills from facilities concept through design and construction.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in California, or the ability to obtain it within one year.
- Strong communication and writing skills for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
- PMP certification or demonstrated project management experience.
- In-depth knowledge of California Building Codes (CBC).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar drafting software.
- Ability to perform troubleshooting on high, medium, and low voltage system faults and equipment operation, and make appropriate recommendations to correct deficiencies.
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable sections and standards of the NEC, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and NFPA-70E requirements.
