What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an embedded software developer (Job Title R&D S&E Computer Science) that would be responsible for deploying high-impact and high-consequence national security capabilities supporting surety applications. Your work will directly impact advanced technologies for weapon-related systems.
You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to the relentless pursuit of exceptional service in the national interest. We are seeking individuals who thrive in a team environment, who are dedicated to improving National Security, and demonstrate desire to learn new skills and applications. Candidates must have strong software engineering skills, including an understanding of the software lifecycle, requirements engineering, verification and validation, configuration and change management. The successful candidate should be able to learn and execute the development methodologies and engineering best practices and contribute to improving and refining those practices and processes.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Design, implement, and deploy complex embedded software
- Author and review software documentation
- Work independently with little oversight as well as collaboratively on an Agile team
- Learn about and implement information assurance concepts
- Partner with hardware, systems, and software engineers
The position requires occasional travel (less than 5%) to support the mission.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time.

Salary Range:
$117,500 - $235,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Ability to acquire a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D S&E Computer Science candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in Computer Science or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
- Experience with delivering embedded software
- Experience analyzing and debugging complex systems at component and system levels
- Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
- Experience with an Agile software development methodology
- Experience with documenting software requirements and design
- Experience with unit testing
- An understanding of commonly used data structures and algorithms for software development
- Demonstrated experience with a high-level programming language (C++, Rust, C#, Python) and a strong understanding of object-oriented design
- Strong understanding of embedded software design, including microprocessor/microcontroller/FPGA architecture, interfacing directly with hardware peripherals, working with limited resources, and rigorous memory management
- Familiarity with secure software design practices and security essential systems
- Understanding of cryptography and cryptographic algorithms
- Knowledge of configuration management systems (GitLab/Gitlab CI, SVN, etc.)
- Active DOE Q-level security clearance (or equivalent)
About Our Team:
The High Assurance Product Realization group develops embedded and ground support equipment in support of National Security missions. We are a leader for high-assurance National Security hardware, utilizing current and advanced electronic hardware approaches, tools, and techniques in developing information assurance subsystems. These responsibilities span research, design, development, production liaison, and existing product evaluation for Use Control applications. Our staff develop custom electronic technologies in support of the DOE/DoD Use Control community and specialize in real-time embedded electronic design solutions with emphasis on security and reliability. The team also has a key role in the development, maturation, and deployment of advanced technologies for next-generation weapon systems and information assurance products.

Security Clearance:
