What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Support Technologist to conduct experimental chemical, electrochemical, and materials science R&D. Major areas of emphasis are electrodeposition/electroplating, material corrosion, and electrochemical energy storage and conversion. Other broader areas of material science are also within the scope of this position.

Our team often spans the R&D spectrum from concept to device scale so the candidate applying for this position should be prepared to engage with the engineering of scaling processes. Finally, much of the work we engage in is unique¿only possible at an institution like Sandia National Laboratories¿and oriented toward the country¿s broad national security mission.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Design and operate electrochemical cells for custom sample generation and/or electroanalytical measurements
  • Perform materials characterization using our in-house materials characterization capabilities
  • Analyze and interpret data
  • Contribute to preparation, publication, and presentation of scientific findings
  • The successful applicant may have opportunity to explore chemical/electrochemical hypotheses and contribute to ideas and new hypotheses
  • The successful applicant will be encouraged to develop and/or improve chemical, electrochemical, and characterization techniques relevant to the work they are performing.

Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:
  • BS in chemistry, materials science, physics or related scientific or engineering field
  • Laboratory experience in chemical techniques
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:
  • Laboratory experience in electrochemical techniques
  • Experience with air-free handling techniques like glovebox and/or Schlenk Line use
  • Experience with Matlab and/or Python programming (or related programming language)
  • An aptitude for/interest in building custom experimental platforms

About Our Team:

The Nanoscale Sciences Department conducts collaborative leading-edge research that advances the understanding of materials at the nanoscale and enables the collaborative development of creative solutions for Sandia's broad and evolving National Security and Energy Missions. Our research activities have broad impact; we typically generate peer-reviewed, high-profile journal publications and presentations at professional scientific meetings. Our main research focus is directed along three thrusts:
  1. Electrochemical Materials Science and Applications (including energy storage, electrodeposition, and corrosion)
  2. Magnetic, Dielectric, and Electronic Materials Science and Applications (including ferroics and composites)
  3. Nanostructured Materials Science and Applications (i.e., for hazardous materials capture/storage, sensing, membranes, water treatment, and catalysis)

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:
