What Your Job Will Be Like:

Our Nuclear Deterrence Controllers Department (05355) is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic, high-impact team. In this role, you will play a critical part in the design, troubleshooting, testing, qualification, and evaluation of weapon controller based electronic systems (the brains of a nuclear weapon) as well as support existing systems in production and sustainment. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Nuclear Deterrence programs that require exceptional performance, reliability, and rigor. The role includes developing detailed in-depth knowledge of the product, its functionality, system-level integration and product testers.

As a successful candidate, you will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust electrical design and qualification solutions and support ongoing production systems. You will actively engage in the design, production and sustainment for controller products. You will collaborate closely with the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) Production Agency (PA), Sandia Design Agency (DA) Product Realization Team (PRT), and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to understand and influence requirements, design elements, testing, analysis, and production troubleshooting. Your insights will be crucial for diagnosing anomalies, proposing corrective actions, and assisting with unit dispositioning. This role is designed for growth, providing you with the knowledge and experience to take on increasing responsibilities in future programs. You will have the opportunity to influence designs and requirements through effective communication of your findings and solutions, positioning yourself for advancement within the team. Salary Range:

$102,400 - $199,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:
  • A B achelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.

  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).

About Our Team:

The 5350 group is responsible for research, design, development, qualification, production support, and surveillance of Fuzing components for the Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Mission. The team supports most current major weapon programs including the B61-12, W88-Alt370, Mk21, W80-4, W76, and W93. Our primary Fuzing products include Radars, Controllers, Inertial Sensors, and other Fuzing electronic assemblies. We have expertise in developing and delivering major components to the stockpile. In addition, we have most surveillance activities for current and historical Arming and Fuzing sub-systems. We have expertise in electrical engineering, software development, sensor design, and embedded design. We partner extensively throughout the labs to ensure successful delivery of our products.

The Reentry Controllers Department 5355 is responsible for the design, development, and support of arming and fuzing subsystems controllers for the SLBM and ICBM legs of the nuclear weapons stockpile triad. The department is currently focused on the development and production of the Missile Interface and Controller Modules (MICM) for the W93/Mk7 and Mk21 AFA while sustaining the W88 ALT 370 MICM and B61-12 Weapon Control Unit (WCU). The department is also responsible for design and production support for the Unique Identifier (UID) for the W76-1/W76-2 Mk4B program. Essential capabilities include controller design and analysis, radiation hardened electronics design, technology evaluation, subsystem design, test and tester development, product realization and qualification.
