What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated R&D Science and Engineering Manager to lead the Electronics Fabrication Department, Org. 7636. This leadership role is pivotal in directing a diverse and passionate team to support and deliver on a variety of high impact programs supporting national security missions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage a broad range of exempt, non-exempt, and MTC represented employees. Additionally, this management position oversees a broad safety and security envelope that includes high risk materials (classified, chemicals, incidental machining, electrical and thermal hazards, laser systems, cryogenic systems, radiation generating devices), facilities, and physical operations. Effective engineered safety and security are critical to successful operations as is alignment to Sandia policies, manuals, and processes.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Lead a hard-working group of engineers and technologists in their development, qualification and delivery of high-reliability products to quality, safety, security, schedule, and budgetary requirements
- Lead a hard-working team consisting of a team lead, tradespeople and apprentices to fabricate various electronic components, to include various cable types, printed circuit boards, and tester chassis, to quality standards and to meet delivery needs
- Ensure sound mechanical and electrical engineering principles are implemented on high-reliability and high-consequence cable assemblies and interconnects.
- Oversee and lead members of the workforce within the department, to include supporting the career development of staff members
- Motivate, mentor, and develop the team to Ensure quality products are delivered with supporting qualification evidence that satisfy customer requirements within cost/schedule constraints
- Lead critical relationships, inclusive of internal and external fabrication partners across the complex, ES&H, Security, and other key partners across Sandia to meet Sandia mission commitments
- Participate in critical strategic initiatives for the Center, the Group, and the Department
- Collaborate with other Production Agencies across the complex to incorporate advanced technologies for manufacturability into the department
Some travel may be required.
Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$163,700 - $278,000
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and eight (8) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
- An active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent is required to start
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D Science and Engineering Manager candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Two or more years of demonstrated leadership experience
- A graduate degree in science or engineering (MS or Ph.D.)
- Outstanding interpersonal skills in developing trusting relationships with peers, staff, management, customers, and stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the development and delivery of presentations, proposals, reports and documentation
Also, for the posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

- Experience with SPP work
- Experience working in a production environment
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage and complete multiple programs and projects

- Experience managing secure spaces (e.g. VTRs)
- Familiarity with fabrication of electronic products
About Our Team:
Electronic Fabrication Department, 07636, provides Sandia with manufacturing technology in packaging of Research and Developmental prototypes of electronic systems through capabilities that include product design, fabrication, inspection, testing and installation. The department supports Sandia's engineering by identifying and meeting customer requirements for the developmental design to application of customized products, through the use of effective and efficient processes to be transitioned to a manufacturing or production environment.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
