What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a highly motivated R&D Laboratory Support Technologist to join an innovative and detail-oriented team. Our team works on a variety of projects and tasks associated with semiconductor failure analysis, specifically microelectronics sample prep.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Use a variety of sample prep tools/approaches to solve unique problems in the interest of National Security.
- Recommend and initiate new concepts and/or alternative approaches to unique problems, generally highly complex in nature.
- Work with technical staff as part of critical problem-solving team with minimal supervision.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks and is expected to recommend improvements to increase productivity and effectiveness within the sphere of influence.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$63,800 - $123,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- High school diploma plus three (3) or more years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Active DOE L-level security clearance or DOD equivalent; with ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
- 2-3 years of microelectronics related experience
- Coordination and collaboration with team members to accomplish a difficult task. These tasks may require a creative and novel approach.
- A desire to learn new skills in support of meeting project milestones;
- A history of mentoring and training other members of the workforce;
- Works well in a team environment, but independently develops new process techniques and works conscientiously to deliver excellent results;
- Direct laboratory experience utilizing a variety of processing tools;
- Ability to document work in a clear and thorough manner;
- Understands the importance of ES&H and takes their own personal safety and the safety of their coworkers seriously;
- Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certified or some other metric that shows the importance of quality systems in your work;
- Active DOE Q or DOD TS clearance.
About Our Team:
The Protective Technologies team, 5640, is the capability the nation depends on for research in advanced secure hardware systems analysis. Protective Technologies maintains a state-of-the-art hardware testing and assessment capability. The capability enables national-level R&D in cyber defense, vulnerability analysis, and protective technologies to DoD, Nuclear Deterrence, and Other Government Agency missions. The Assessment Readiness Department, 5642-1, specializes in microelectronics sample preparation to enable failure analysis techniques and vulnerability assessments.
Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance.
