Role Description

Digital Enterprise Technology (DET) at Salesforce connects people and technology to shape the future of work at Salesforce. DET IT is looking for a Lead Member of the Technical Staff (LMTS) to join our IT Core Finance Engineering team.
This role provides technical leadership and architectural oversight for enterprise finance platforms, including Workday Financials, Vertex tax systems, and the integration ecosystem connecting Quote-to-Cash and Record-to-Report platforms. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Workday Financials and Vertex tax solutions with strong engineering leadership in enterprise integrations, API architecture, and large-scale financial systems. You will play a critical role in defining the technical strategy, architecture patterns, and engineering standards for finance applications and integrations across the organization.

This role requires a hands-on technical leader who can design complex solutions, mentor engineers, influence architectural decisions, and partner closely with Finance, Tax, Revenue Operations, and Engineering teams to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-performing finance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, and technical strategy for enterprise finance systems across Workday Financials, Vertex tax systems, and integration platforms.
  • Define and implement scalable integration architectures connecting ERP, Vertex E Invoicing tool banking platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership and governance for Workday Financial solutions, including integrations with Salesforce, RevRec systems, Vertex, MuleSoft, and other enterprise applications.
  • Architect and optimize Vertex tax solutions, including tax determination rules, jurisdictions, exemptions, and compliance reporting.
  • Define enterprise data flows, transaction mapping, and reconciliation frameworks across upstream and downstream financial systems.
  • Translate complex finance, tax, and regulatory requirements into robust technical architectures aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Establish and govern integration standards, including API design, payload structures, security models, error handling, and observability frameworks.
  • Drive performance, scalability, and reliability improvements for high-volume financial transaction processing.
  • Mentor and guide engineers through architecture reviews, design discussions, and technical decision-making, elevating overall engineering quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including Finance, Tax, Product, Business Systems, and system integrators to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Drive adoption of automation, AI-assisted development tools, and modern integration frameworks to improve engineering productivity.
  • Ensure audit readiness, documentation standards, and compliance with SOX and enterprise governance requirements.
  • Anticipate future technical needs and evolve architecture patterns, tools, and frameworks to support business growth and global scale.

Required Skills

  • 12+ years of enterprise software engineering experience, with significant experience in finance or ERP platforms.
  • Deep expertise in Workday Financials and Vertex including architecture, integrations, and technical frameworks.
  • Strong experience implementing and supporting Vertex tax determination systems in enterprise environments.
  • Strong knowledge of indirect tax domains, including Sales & Use Tax, VAT, GST, exemptions, and compliance processes.
  • Extensive experience designing enterprise integrations using REST/SOAP APIs, middleware platforms, and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong experience with Workday technical capabilities,
  • Hands-on experience with integration platforms such as MuleSoft, Boomi, or Informatica.
  • Strong understanding of Quote-to-Cash and Record-to-Report finance processes.
  • Experience designing secure, scalable API architectures and data integration frameworks.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across financial systems, tax engines, and integration platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead architecture discussions and influence senior stakeholders across engineering and business teams.
  • Experience working in Agile environments with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems (Git).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance Systems, or related field.

Desired Skills

  • Experience building custom applications using Workday Extend and Orchestrate.
  • Knowledge of enterprise financial compliance, SOX controls, and audit frameworks.
  • Experience with automation, RPA, or enterprise testing frameworks.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar technologies.
  • Experience designing global tax and finance architectures supporting multi-entity operations.
