Job Summary

The Quality Control Specialist oversees the day-to-day activities of the quality lab. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring production line personnel support, work quality, and adherence to established policies and procedures; provides training on proper QC testing procedures and sample collection processes; and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Understanding & implementation of all aspects of the Quality Manual. Adherence to corporate and plant quality standards throughout the department and plant. To support a zero-defect system through process control, to minimize non-quality related costs, and to improve customer satisfaction. Responsible for the quality and workmanship of the department. This requires defect-free work and an understanding of the requirements of the company's quality system as it pertains to job duties and responsibilities. Must be able to check work to ensure conformance to process control instructions, specifications, and quality standards. Identify and segregate non-conforming products. Identify the need for and assist in initiating and implementing corrective and preventive actions when appropriate.

Essential Functions

  • Perform testing procedures using various testing equipment. Testing of raw materials to ensure that a quality-incoming product is delivered to the production department
  • Track "hold" products and reconcile the "hold" system throughout the process
  • Random checks on the finished product to ensure CertainTeed's manufacturing specifications
  • Interaction with the CertainTeed Sales Team on complaints
  • Perform warehouse audits and teach operators about testing parameters on finished products
  • Perform testing for Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
  • Obtain and maintain information for new products/colors and perform all the necessary additions to pallet labels, stencils, granule automation, Factory Plus, and other changes as needed for ISO 9001 objectives
  • Research, purchase, and set up lab test equipment maintain specified calibrations and documentation of calibration checks
  • Maintenance of all measuring & test equipment
  • Participate in the development, understanding, and review of all position JSA's.
  • Conduct required 5S Audits in accordance with plant goals and objectives
  • Enforce adherence to EHS Systems by hourly workforce, lead by example.
  • Report all EH&S incidents - Injuries/Recordables, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage.
  • Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities.
  • Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions

Required Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline, or related technical field
  • 3-5 years in manufacturing with exposure in a quality role
  • 1-3 years in a supervisory role is preferred
  • Technical in lab testing methods, drawings, and diagrams
  • Microsoft Office programs
  • Communication skills
  • Organizational management skills/tools

Licenses and Certifications

  • ASQ, CQE, or CQM certification is preferred

Travel for this role may require up to 10% of the time.
