What's the job?

As the successful candidate for this role, the Packaging Optimization Engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing packaging processes and equipment across multiple manufacturing facilities across the United States.

The successful candidate will be the Subject Matter Expert for the entire Siding Products Group and work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Product Management, and Supply Chain and will be responsible for identifying areas of improvement, implementing solutions, and ensuring that packaging meets our quality specifications, customer requirements, and be accountable to deliver budgeted Cost Reductions through Packaging Improvements.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Packaging Process Analysis: Conduct thorough assessments of current packaging processes and equipment to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
  • Optimization Strategies: Develop and implement innovative strategies to optimize packaging processes, reduce waste, and increase overall efficiency while maintaining product integrity.
  • Cost Management: Optimize packaging processes with a focus on cost reduction while maintaining high quality.
  • R&D Collaboration: Collaborate with R&D teams to understand packaging specifications and translate them into practical and scalable solutions for manufacturing facilities.
  • Equipment Upgrades and Integration: Identify opportunities for CAPEX utilization in upgrading or introducing new packaging equipment to enhance productivity and meet quality standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that packaging materials and processes comply with industry regulations, company standards, and customer expectations.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor and analyze packaging performance, making data-backed decisions to drive continuous improvement.
  • Training and Documentation: Develop comprehensive training materials and conduct training sessions for manufacturing personnel to ensure consistent packaging practices.
  • Collaborative Projects: Work collaboratively with other departments on various projects, providing packaging engineering expertise and contributing to the overall success of the company.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or relevant work experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of experience in packaging engineering or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Packaging Expertise: Strong knowledge of various packaging materials, equipment, and processes, as well as industry best practices.
  • Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to optimize processes.
  • Problem-Solving: Proven track record of solving packaging-related challenges with innovative and effective solutions.
  • Collaborative Team Player: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and budgets.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: A passion for continuous learning and a commitment to staying up-to-date with industry advancements and emerging technologies.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel to multiple manufacturing facilities across the Eastern United States as needed. Travel expected to be no more than 25%.
