The ideal candidate combines instructional design rigor with practical facilitation skills and an understanding of gaming and platform technology companies. You understand that effective development experiences aren't just information transfer; they're about building confidence, connection, and capability through evidence-based design. You're comfortable facilitating a cohort of 30 new engineers, co-delivering a feedback workshop for 50 managers, then analyzing data to refine both experiences for the next groups. You can articulate why spaced practice matters, design for cognitive load, and translate complex organizational knowledge into engaging learning experiences. You'll work independently with support from the broader People Experience and Learning team and close collaboration with Recruiting, People Business Partners, and functional leaders across the organization.
What You'll Do:
- Own new hire experiences - Design, facilitate, and continuously optimize New Hire Orientation (NHO), Starter Pack, and Engineering Bootcamp programs for hundreds of new Builders annually, ensuring consistent quality and impact
- Support broader talent development - Co-facilitate and provide design support for organization-wide learning initiatives including Amplify leadership development, Builder Development programs (e.g., feedback workshops), and other capability-building experiences as needed
- Apply learning science - Translate principles from adult learning theory, expertise development, and onboarding research into practical program design decisions that accelerate new hire effectiveness
- Facilitate engaging experiences - Lead virtual and in-person sessions for cohorts of 10-50 new hires, creating psychologically safe environments that build connection and enable learning
- Partner across functions - Partner with Recruiting on candidate experience, IT on technical setup, People Business Partners on business alignment, and with engineering leaders on content accuracy, to ensure seamless experiences and accurate content
- Drive continuous improvement - Use feedback and program evaluation methods to systematically refine experiences; measure time-to-productivity and new hire confidence metrics
- Manage program operations - Oversee the end-to-end project management of new hire onboarding and Engineering Bootcamp programs, ensuring timely delivery, stakeholder coordination, and high-quality outcomes
Required Qualifications:
- 5-7+ years experience in learning and development, instructional design, or related field with demonstrated impact on employee onboarding or capability development
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Adult Learning/Education, Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, or related field preferred
- Instructional design expertise - Formal training in ADDIE, SAM, Bloom's Taxonomy, or other instructional design frameworks with demonstrated application to workplace programs
- Facilitation experience - Proven ability to facilitate engaging sessions for groups of 10-50 people across different formats (in-person workshops, virtual sessions, hybrid experiences)
- Learning science foundation - Working knowledge of adult learning principles (andragogy, social learning theory, cognitive load theory) and ability to apply them to program design
- Evaluation mindset - Experience using feedback, surveys, and learning analytics to assess program effectiveness and drive iterative improvement
- Experience in high-growth technology companies, preferably supporting technical talent populations
- Operationally Sound - Strong program management skills and detail orientation with the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and maintain consistent quality at scale
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content
Preferred Qualifications:
- Gaming industry experience - Background in gaming, platform, or developer-focused technology companies with understanding of gaming culture, developer communities, and technical talent development
- Roblox platform familiarity - Experience with the Roblox platform and creator community, enabling authentic connection with new hires and credible facilitation of technical onboarding
- Master's degree in Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, Adult Learning, or I-O Psychology
- Experience designing onboarding programs specifically for engineering or technical roles
- Technical literacy - Comfort understanding software development workflows, tools, and terminology
- Experience with learning management systems, digital content creation tools, and AI-powered learning platforms
- Data orientation - Comfort with survey design, basic statistical analysis, and translating data into insights
- Familiarity with agile or design thinking methodologies
- Portfolio demonstrating instructional design work and learning experience development
You Are:
- A learner-centered designer. You start with understanding your audience – their prior knowledge, their needs, their anxieties – and design backwards from the outcomes they need to achieve.
- Evidence-informed. You make design decisions based on learning science research and data, not just intuition or convention, and can articulate the "why" behind your approaches.
- Organizationally savvy. You understand how to navigate complex organizations, build relationships with stakeholders, and align learning experiences with business priorities.
- Iterative and improvement-oriented. You view every program launch as version 1.0 and continuously refine based on feedback, data, and new research.
- A clear communicator. You translate complex ideas into accessible content, facilitate engaging discussions, and build consensus across diverse stakeholders.
- Low ego and execution-focused. You value impact over visibility, take pride in enabling others' success, and deliver high-quality work consistently.
