The Money Infrastructure team builds the backbone of Robinhood’s Credit Card and Banking products. We own the core infrastructure, reliability, scalability, observability, incident response, and developer experience that make money movement safe, correct, and fast at scale. We also lead adoption of AI-powered engineering tooling that helps teams build faster, review better, monitor more intelligently, and operate with greater clarity. Our mandate is simple: raise the technical ceiling of the organization and remove the friction that slows it down.
As a Software Backend Engineer, Credit Card & Banking Infrastructure, you’ll work on the high-leverage systems problems that matter most as the business grows. You’ll design and build backend and platform capabilities that improve resiliency, simplify complexity, strengthen operational excellence, and accelerate engineering teams across the stack. This is a strong fit for an engineer with range, ambition, and a high quality bar—someone who wants to learn quickly, take ownership early, and help shape the infrastructure behind products used at massive scale.
This role is based in our Bellevue, WA, or New York, NY office(s), with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What you’ll do
- Improve the scalability, reliability, and performance of core money movement and ledger-adjacent systems, including resilience under rapid traffic spikes.
- Find and fix structural weaknesses in architecture and operations to reduce incidents, manual toil, and on-call burden.
- Build internal tooling and automation that make engineers faster and more effective, including AI-assisted workflows for diagnosis, testing, and operational analysis.
- Raise the bar on observability and operational excellence through better dashboards, alerting, runbooks, and incident follow-through.
- Partner across Credit Card & Banking to shape technical designs, harden service boundaries, and deliver safe, high-quality launches.
What you bring
- A passion for building and operating production backend systems where correctness, security, and reliability are non-negotiable.
Strong distributed systems fundamentals and a track record of working effectively in service-oriented architectures at scale. - The ability to spot leverage: you use metrics, traces, and incident data to uncover root causes and drive meaningful improvements.
- Clear, confident technical communication, and excellent cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Sound engineering judgment and strong ownership—you can make smart trade-offs, execute with urgency, and raise the bar around you.

In addition to the base pay range listed below, this role is also eligible for bonus opportunities + equity + benefits.
Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected base pay range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones. For other locations not listed, compensation can be discussed with your recruiter during the interview process.
