The Role:

The Consumer Social Media Strategist is responsible for leading the strategy, planning, and execution of Prudential's consumer-facing social media presence across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit and emerging platforms. This role owns how the Prudential brand shows up in social - translating brand strategy, consumer insights, cultural intelligence, and real-time performance data into platform-native, social-first content that drives brand relevance, trust, and consideration, while also supporting key business narratives and priorities.

Equal parts strategic leader and hands-on content driver, this role serves as the center of expertise for consumer social media - with deep ownership of channel strategy, performance optimization, and long-term creative effectiveness. The Consumer Social Media Strategist partners closely with Brand Advertising, Sponsorships, Paid Media, Business Marketing, Communications, Analytics, and Compliance to ensure tight collaboration and cohesive execution across the enterprise.

This role is supported by a content strategist/executor and plays a key role in guiding, prioritizing, and elevating the team's consumer social output.

Key Responsibilities

Social Strategy & Channel Ownership

  • Lead and own Prudential's enterprise consumer social media strategy across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and emerging channels).
  • Define clear platform roles, audience targets, content pillars, and narrative frameworks aligned to brand strategy and business objectives.
  • Maintain a social-first mindset, ensuring strategies and content are designed for how consumers actually engage on platforms - not adapted from other channels.
  • Serve as the center of knowledge for consumer social media best practices, platform evolution, and cultural relevance.
  • Identify and leverage cultural moments, platform trends, and timely opportunities for meaningful brand participation.

Content Strategy, Direction & Execution

  • Translate brand positioning, consumer insights, and business priorities into clear content strategies and creative briefs for short-form video, static content, and storytelling assets.
  • Provide strategic direction to the Social Content Lead, internal creative partners, and agency teams to ensure content is platform-native, engaging, and performance-oriented.
  • Balance long-term narrative building with always-on and real-time content execution, adjusting based on performance and cultural relevance.
  • Ensure content strategies both advance brand goals and support key business narratives, product priorities, and enterprise initiatives.

Campaign Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead consumer social media strategy for social-first campaigns, seasonal initiatives, and priority moments.
  • Partner closely with Paid Media team to align organic and paid social strategies, amplification plans, and test-and-learn agendas.
  • Drive strong collaboration across Brand, Sponsorships, Business Marketing, Communications, Analytics, and other functional partners to ensure cohesive planning and execution.
  • Provide hands-on social media support at key Sponsorships and Event activations.
  • Act as a strategic thought partner to internal stakeholders, helping teams understand how social media can best support their objectives.

Performance, Insights & Optimization

  • Maintain real-time visibility into channel and campaign performance, identifying opportunities for in-market optimizations and enhancements.
  • Partner with analytics and insights teams to define KPIs, analyze results, and translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Apply performance learnings, audience behavior insights, and competitive intelligence to continuously refine strategy and creative effectiveness.
  • Build a long-term learning agenda to improve content performance, platform strategy, and brand impact over time.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure all consumer social content aligns with brand standards, regulatory requirements, and enterprise social governance.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Reputation teams to manage approvals and ensure responsible, low-risk execution without sacrificing creativity or timeliness.
  • Help balance innovation and speed with the realities of a regulated environment.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in social media strategy, content, or channel management within a brand, agency, or regulated industry (financial services experience preferred, but not required).
  • Deep understanding of platform-native best practices, particularly for TikTok, Instagram (Reels), and YouTube (Shorts).
  • Proven experience developing and owning channel-level strategies for large or complex brands.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate insights into actionable plans and creative direction.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with brand, business, paid media, analytics, and communications teams.
  • Comfortable managing agency partners and collaborating with internal creative teams.
  • Strong storytelling, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to navigate complexity and legal/compliance workflows effectively.
  • Familiarity with enterprise social tools such as Sprinklr or Hearsay is a plus.
