Job Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Database Administrator to support and maintain our database environments, primarily focused on Microsoft SQL Server with additional responsibilities for Oracle databases. This role ensures the availability, performance, and security of critical database systems, both on-premises and in Azure. The successful candidate will manage day-to-day operations, implement best practices, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business applications and data services.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases across on-prem and Azure environments

Performance Tuning & Optimization

  • Analyze and optimize database performance using tools and techniques such as indexing, query tuning, and resource monitoring

Backup & Recovery

  • Implement and manage backup strategies, ensuring data integrity and disaster recovery readiness

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements

Patching & Upgrades

  • Plan and execute database patching, version upgrades, and maintenance activities

Collaboration

  • Work closely with infrastructure, application, and security teams to support integrated solutions

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations, procedures, and incidents

Incident & Problem Management

  • Participate in incident resolution and root cause analysis for database-related issues

Change Management

  • Ensure all changes are documented and approved through appropriate change control processes

Other

  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested

Functional Competencies (Technical knowledge/Skills)

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Working knowledge of Oracle database administration (preferable)
  • Experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and related services
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery tools (e.g., Redgate, Veeam, native tools)
  • Understanding of database security and compliance standards
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management)
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

Experience, Education, and Certifications

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator
  • Experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases
  • Experience with Azure database services and cloud-based infrastructure
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate) preferred
  • Oracle certifications a plus
  • ITIL Foundation certification preferred
  • Fluent in English
