R&D Measurable Sciences Jr. Scientist
Overview
The R&D Measurable Sciences Jr. Scientist reports into our Measurement Sciences Lab. This role supports the Fast Lab testing program analysis of food and snack samples, which is integral to the daily analytical testing of innovation, research, and quality monitoring for the successful development/commercialization of new products and maintaining existing products.
The main objective of the role is to support the Production Lab environment. The ideal candidate will be performing physical analysis of food and snack samples as well as ingredients, reporting timely results and maintaining accurate records and documentation under the direction of the lab manager and senior members of the team. The daily work includes preparing samples by following approved methods, instrument maintenance, organizing lab supplies as well as inventory and support other tasks assigned by the lab manager. Apply your technical knowledge by collaborating with PepsiCo's manufacturing plants to solve consumer complaints and urgent global requests. You will also work closely on business-critical innovation projects with the R&D Product Development teams. Partner with the methods team to develop the next generation of test methods to meet the requirements of the ever-changing field operational analytical needs, landscape, and innovation.

Responsibilities
- Conduct sample preparation and data acquisition for moisture analyses by following approved procedures.
- Coordinate test plans with Product Developers.
- Perform TGM and TGA checkup and maintenance to ensure instruments are in good working condition.
- Follow-up with PD personnel for Trial Test Plans.
- Follow Chain of Custody protocol; receive and log sample into LabVantage LIMS for analysis and traceability; manage sample disposal following standard protocol.
- Perform bench work supporting Method Development including TGM, Titrator, Forced Air Oven, and Vacuum Oven analyses, HX rapid moisture analysis, in addition to NMR analysis.
- Cross training with Core team members as needed on executing various R&D projects
- Partner with product development to consult on ways of analyzing PepsiCo food products.
- Partner with product development to drive key business objects in conformance with FDA approved methodology for projects.
- Stay current in area of expertise and area of project related research by reading and interpreting scientific literature and IP and actively engage in relevant external scientific organizations.
- Collaborate across the Measurement Sciences global laboratory team to ensure alignment and consistency across processes and practices.
- Demonstrate adherence to site Health & Safety and Good Laboratory Practice policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation and assure the reliability of measurement systems by using appropriate GLP.
- Order supplies as needed for the work area.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance of instruments with Lab Manager.
Compensation and Benefits:
- The expected compensation range for this position is between $53,600 - $80,450.

Qualifications
- BS degree in Analytical Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or related discipline.
- Experience in a laboratory environment. Familiar with Laboratory Information Management Systems and documentation tools.
- Analytical experience required.
- Desirable: Experiences with Water Activity, Titrations, LAB Color, NMR, TGA, TGM, Vacuum Oven, Rapid Moisture and Forced Air Oven.
- Must understand and follow safe handling of hazardous chemicals and have an appreciation of the normal hazards associated with laboratory work.
- Experience working effectively as a member and contributor on cross functional teams.
- Highly developed critical thinking skills required to determine various potential technical solutions and solve technical problems utilizing standard research methodology.
- Ability to communicate confidently and effectively in a timely manner in presentations and emails.
Skills, Abilities, Knowledge:
- Ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver against multiple assignments.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and clearly document and communicate the results.
- Ability to troubleshoot analytical chemistry issues, identify root causes and implement corrective actions, and communicate this both within and outside PepsiCo.
- Basic computer skills and functional knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
